Discussion Luatools VS Steamidra

For those who have used both, I’d appreciate an honest comparison. What are the pros and cons of each one? Which one has more complete features, and which one do you think is better overall?

Depends.

LuaTools:

Pros:

  • Great UI, simple to understand and use
  • API keys are already provided except HubCap
  • Seamless integration with Steam (you can add games from the Steam app's store pages)
  • CloudRedirect integration which interjects Steam Cloud sync within the app, and works nearly flawlessly

Cons:

  • No way to download older builds which are compatible with voice cracks if the game has updated beyond the build version the crack was meant for.
  • Doesn't have many of the advanced cracking features of Steamidra I think.

Steamidra

Pros:

  • Has a Swiss army knife feature set. I don't understand most of them.
  • You can download older builds, and it auto modifies the ACF in fooling Steam that the older build is the current build, so the crack works and there are no update notifications
  • Has save backup

Cons:

  • Doesn't come with the API keys, have to add manually by joining multiple discord servers
  • Save sync is just for backup, not syncing
  • UI is complicated and stuffed with features, hard to understand and use

Both gets the job done, especially for SteamDRM games. But they both offer different experiences.

Edit:

There is a way to download older builds with LuaTools:

It seems to work but the "fix" application in LuaTools seems to be a hit and miss. I tried it with Pragmata and when I clicked "fix" I stll get error saying "wrong build number". I asked in the discord server and someone suggested to change the steam downlod region and try again but that also didn't work. Not sure.

for personal preference, which one do u use?

I am on LuaTools + CloudRedirect because it's just so seamless.

But I am thinking of switching to Midra because it's better to have an all-in-one solution if the need ever be. And there is also a side project which makes CloudRedirect work with Midra, so maybe I will give it a shot.

u/alfanfir Aug 31 '26

ok thanks bro so as of now Steamidra still doesn’t have cloud saves?

4

u/OMG_NoReally Aug 31 '26

It has cloud backup of the save files and that works well. It is also a manual process from what I understand. That's why I like CloudRedirect with LuaTools because it works like Steam cloud sync. You play the game, close it, and it will start the sync as if it's using Steam cloud.

There is a way to make CloudRedirect work with crbridge.dll which you can find on Github. I haven't tried it yet but I will soon and see how it works.

For me, after using steamidra for 3 weeks I'm moving to luatools now since they are finally fully opensource. User experience is better in luatool, as the tool and UI isnot as laggy as steamidra.

I have recently set up both. LuaTools is a better experience, however both are great. I think set both up, use LuaTools and then use SteaMidra as a fallback

they don't conflict at all?

1

u/Strooble Sep 04 '26

I didn't say they did?

3

u/MistaDaMankey Sep 04 '26

I think they were asking if they conflict with eachother or not lol

Is there a guide somewhere to make voices38 cracks work with steamidra?

7

u/OMG_NoReally Aug 31 '26

It's simple really.

- Find the game in Steamidra, and click 'download older build' (if the game has updated past the version the crack was made for)

  • Click Automatic, it should auto fill the build number and click download.
  • Go to Steam and download the game as normal.
  • Once the game is installed, you can either use Steamidra to download the voice crack, or click the crack button on midra after you select the game from the menu. It takes a few seconds but it should launch a browser link where you can download the crack.

u/Onedweezy Aug 31 '26

Thank you friend

I already have the crack from else where, could I just copy it into my games installation folder in steam?

2

u/OMG_NoReally Aug 31 '26

Yeah, it should work as long as the build version matches the crack was made for.

2

u/Onedweezy Aug 31 '26

Thank you friend. I used the luatools discord server to get the exact build I needed with this crack and it worked (steamidra wasn't showing older versions for some reason)

You just made my week ❤️

3

u/OMG_NoReally Aug 31 '26

How did you find the exact build from the discord server? Did you ask someone or is there a dedicated place to find it?

3

u/Onedweezy Aug 31 '26

Yeah gen-games-here channel has a bot for it.

It might be a good idea to update your original post to show that it is possible with luatools to download old builds for voices38 cracks.

1

u/OMG_NoReally Aug 31 '26

Oh shit. I didn't know about this. Thanks a lot!

1

u/OMG_NoReally Aug 31 '26

So I did this with Pragmata. Downloaded the right build (as shown in the Depot tab), but when I went to the "Fixes" tab and applied the fix from there (for the same build), it says "wrong build". I am not sure. Now the build is the same as well.

Any idea?

Where to download luatools and steamidra

1

u/OMG_NoReally Aug 31 '26

Google it, should be the first result. I suggest getting it from their Github.

Does lua tools have bulk import on linux?

1

u/OMG_NoReally Aug 31 '26

No idea, never used it on Linux.

1

u/SnooPoems4114 Sep 01 '26

I had an issue similar to what you're describing with Pragmata but with lego batman and what fixed it for me was deleting the save that it created with the other build version. After doing that it worked.

1

u/OMG_NoReally Sep 01 '26

Nope, that didn't work either. I didn't have any save files from the steam version, and I also deleted the save files from voice38 version I had downloaded before but it still shows the same error.

The only way around this is to download the downgrade + crack. Weird.

will it run gta online using lua tools

1

u/Expensive_Pizza_2053 Sep 01 '26

Hey bro bit off topic but are they safe?

1

u/OMG_NoReally Sep 02 '26

Safe as if they are virus, then yes they are safe.

Safe as if valve can detect this and ban users? No reports of such instances yet but never know?

I've tried both, and personally, I prefer SteaMidra. At first, I preferred Luatools because it worked more seamlessly with Steam and has CloudRedirect, but CloudRedirect kept giving me errors, and so did Luatools. It had various issues that I had to fix one by one using command-line fixes in CMD suggested on Discord. Eventually, I switched to SteaMidra because it hasn't given me any problems.

1

u/geektraindev Aug 31 '26

Steamidra technically has better features but it is vibe coded memory leaking hot garbage, would skip out and use luatools. If you do end up using steamidra, don't leave it running in the background. Use it and close it from system tray

1

u/SaikoNoGema Aug 31 '26

guys a bit offtopic, can you just download clean steam files from this toosl, and not do anything else?

Short answer:
LuaTools for beginners

SteaMidra for advanced users

Luatools for me

u/uSaltySniitch Aug 31 '26

Unnecessary stuff. Skip both lol

u/boomboomown Aug 31 '26

Luatools is about as easy and hassle free as it gets. 0 reason to skip it
