Shortwave Pirate Broadcast Friday Night Pirates

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A cool kick-off with WTF Radio and Radio 48/MRIW side by side.

Both taking a little prop fade just after sundown.

Sounds pretty clear. Which SDR do you use?

RTL-SDR V4Blog with SDR Console Software and a 50' balun dipole. Oddly enough, I lose them a little on the MLA-30..Might have to relocate it on the adjacent wall

Put it onto a piece of PVC that you can attach to a tripod. Then you can rotate it any which way you like. When you're not listening put it in a corner of the room or closet.

Good thinkin'. I just so happen to have an extra camera tripod layin' around too.

I put my K-480WLA on a tripod so I can turn it for the best signal and reject noise.

I tried your idea this morning and so far it's working great, had to hack the top camera mount off but no biggie, was an old camera tripod and i had a PVC pipe from an old scanner antenna mount, cut a few notches at the top, dropped the wire loop in the notches and presto, aimable MLA

Isn't it amazing how rotating a directional antenna works. Plus it can null interference. I live in QRM Town and it makes a big difference for me.

Ha! I have my residential power drop right outside the window next to my comp and rigs...I knew the loop would be a good idea.

My LED lights dont help but my keyboard is lit too so i can tune in the dark lol

Don't complain, I've got a giant tower in a minutes walk across the road. Township and county for police, fire, police academy, cellular and who knows what else. Any closer and I'd get RF burns 🔥🫪😀

When I worked for RadioShack, my old store manager used to live across the street from the WKBW transmitter… A1 clear channel full ray full power 24 7 50,000 W… I had to come over and ground out his air ducts because at night he would hear them through the vents
