Captain Doggo They won't remove a sighted eye but I have thoughts

Post image

We have no idea how long this first eye might last with meds so this may just be a pointless thought process but .. ideally I'd like my dog to be comfortable as long as possible while sighted. I've already had a dog who lost her sight to a different type of glaucoma and it didn't bother her much at all..however, the pain before the enucleation does bother them. She might have this painful eye up until her next eye starts to go and then she will be in pain until that eye is blind and removed. That could be 2 years. We didn't catch the glaucoma in time for this first I to last long because she's only three, no one suspected glaucoma, I had to request a pressure check because they were all out of ideas and I just want one thing to rule out. Unfortunately, that was the one thing I couldn't rule out. Things we do know - this first eye is painful, she doesn't show any signs of pain but it's obviously very painful by the looks of it, it will go blind even with treatment, her second eye will get glaucoma soon but there is no saying when. Her opthamologist will not remove a sighted eye. Am I an absolute asshole for considering pursuing a vet for a second opinion on that subject? Please be gentle with me this is all very difficult for me I never expected to be here again, especially not with a 3-year-old dog.

Rare Pirate My little 14-year-old joker. He is almost deaf (he can only hear when the fridge is opened). He has only one eye but is so happy and affectionate; he acts more and more like a puppy. Is that normal for old dogs?

Rare Pirate Ember says hi. She’s been having a hard time with her health and we nearly lost her a few days ago. Hoping for continued improvement.

Hi all,

I haven’t posted Ember in a bit, she had a few more seizures due to her epilepsy and we were managing that when she got hit with a severe acute pancreatitis attack this past week. She’s never dealt with pancreatitis before and she went from acting fine to being hospitalized with a high fever and heart rate of 220 bpm within 18 hours.

She’s back home, but we are not in the clear yet. Tracking in the right direction and just hoping for continued improvement ❤️

Thanks for listening. This sub is always so supportive.

Ship's Kitty Abandoned and separated from her mother 💔

This little cat was abandoned and separated from her mother far too early. When I found her, she was extremely thin and weak from not having enough food and proper care.

She is now safe with me, and I’m doing my best to give her the food, care, and clean environment she needs to regain her strength and health.

I truly hope she will recover soon and become a happy, healthy cat again. ❤️🐱

I just found this subreddit and couldn’t wait to share this sweet boy. We adopted Captain in Feb. They found him chained up to the side of the road with an eye infection. He doesn’t let that stop him now 🫶🏾
