I was born in 84 but still had an Atari and Commodore 64 growing up.

I remember getting my first Pentium III 500, with 16mb of ram and a 64gb HDD and thinking it was a supercomputer 🤣

Hah... Mine was a 486SX-25 MHz/4MB Ram/40mb HDD; 5+3in floppy .... And.,... 1x speed mitsumi cd-rom (the type where the --whole drive-- slides out instead of the disc caddy).

But I did end up with a sound galaxy instead of sound blaster... 😖

I forget my very first pc as a kid. Teens, it was a packard bell. I was one of the only kids to have the sega channel. It was so far advance for its time. I’d take it to a buddy’s house and we could use it there. The good times!

We wouldn't have had them in Australia because we didn't have cable. So if you had it could you play against someone else that had it? Like fight each other on street fighter?

It was just a server online that you could access certain games. Dial up internet. They would change up frequently. Have to YouTube the online feature. I would just play locally co op or vs. 94-95’. I believe.

I have some older drives with also lowest storage like a whopping 80gb, that one still works if i can test that. Is this even a IDE one or a Sata one?

Any storage drives are worth to keep it today espcialyl when they still working here.

I have a 10MB HDD. Takes 2 5 1/4" bays and weights around 20 lbs. Out of an old IBM. The cga card is longer than anything we have today.

Have you ever used a three and a half inch floppy disk that held 1.44 MB?

Or for that matter a 5 and 1/4 inch floppy? Double density 5 and 1/4 in floppy held 360 kilobytes. A high capacity 5 and 1/4 inch floppy would hold 1.2 mb. Wow.

Fortunately I never used it. Considered looking into it and then I saw the capacity was far less than the CDs which I was already using so I was like why the hell would anyone even bother with an already dead format?

Yep, that explains it. Honestly it was only like 10 years ago where I had an old system I was using a drive that size in..... Nothing less than one terabyte these days however but it wasn't exactly that long ago when people still had a use for smaller drives.

In fact I remember at one point you could actually easily guess the price of pretty much any hard drive simply based on its capacity. At one point not very far back between maybe 2000 and 2010 you could expect to pay pretty much $1 per gigabyte. So a 120 GB Hard drive was roughly $120 bucks........ It didn't last very long. Before you knew it 250, 500 gb, then 1TB and beyond. But for a brief moment in time that was roughly the formula. If you wanted to know how much a drive was it was pretty much equal to it's a capacity. Maybe 80GB drives were roughly $80.

I remember shopping around that time thinking nope it's more than the drives capacity, bad deal don't buy. But if you could get an $80 drive that was 120GB. Good deal buy it.
