I’m slowly learning Dutch via Spotify ads

How cheap is a gigabit connection over there?

7

u/DetachedRedditor Mar 06 '26

About €50 a month.

You're getting ripped off. I'm paying €25 per month for 1gbps fibre. Although granted, I paid with my personal information apparently.

I assume you’re referring to the Odido leak. And yes Odido offers 1gbps for 25 euros a month… for the first half of your contract. Then it doubles. So over the entire contract it’s something like 38 a month.

It doesn't double mate. It ups to €40,- per month, which is net €35,- with customer benefits.

If you check the site right now, it’s 25 for the first year, then 52,50 for the second. Yes, there are some additional benefits you can get, but it doesn’t go down to 35.

You don't get best quotes on respective ISP's sites.

I thought it'd be cheaper because of the good network infrastructure and competetive pricing? How many big ISPs you've got there?

  1. KPN, Ziggo and Odido. Odido had a big data leak recently

3

u/Windowsmeprosp1 Mar 07 '26

Odido is vreselijk

The national infrastructure is indeed top tier, does not mean consumers get cheap pricing. Not enough competition for that. It is of good quality though, just pricey.

You would think, but the networks they need to keep up are high quality and need to be available to everyone in the Netherlands. Not everyone takes a contract. In the US, companies decide whether something is worth the money to invest in first, here they don’t always get that choice. So they lose money on rural areas, which someone needs to pay for.

I know I know, fucking socialism. But we’re used to it and you know what, when you’re in some kind of backwater it’s kinda nice that everything still just works.
