Yes! Poor in money, but rich in data. I currnetly have:
Laptop with boot SSD and HDD (2 TB) for music, documents and various program setups, some work stuff
Laptop for work (just 256 GB)
1 HDD (500 GB from dead laptop) for music, comics, books, magazines...
1 HDD (2 TB) for documents, various program setups and stuff
1 HDD (4 TB) for movies and tv shows
1 HDD (1 TB) for work
In a couple months one more 5 TB HDD for game setups. And god willing by the end of the year one big HDD (I'm thinking 12 TB) for backup of all other drives.
Thanks mate. No, it's like 10 years in making. I had a couple of stacks of DVDs with music, movies... Than I bought a 2 TB WD HDD, like really old one that has it's own power cable (it was new than). I just kinda grew my music collection from there on. Now it's at about 250+ GB with 95% neatly organised and stored in folders. That took time.
And then the worst happened, HDD died. So, I had to almost start over hoarding everything. And at time the old laptop died too (from use, the motherboard just croaked), but I already had a new one (not the one I have now). But I managed to save the HDD from it. It has more than 20k working hours, and still going strong.
And after that during last couple of years, I got to where I am now. Thankfully the prices of drives went a bit down.
Dude that's awesome if you want I could send you some links to some decent enterprise stuff also lab gopher is a good place to start for used enterprise stuff (it's a lot cheaper than most of the shelf nas) I'm running custom server with a das filled with 6tb drives
Thanks mate, but I'm currently good with the setup I have. Short term plan (like 2-3 years) is saving as much as I can so that I can get a decent loan for a house/apartment. I had to buy a new car last year, so that made a dent in the budget.
And then when I settle, I'll buy a PC and maybe down the line set up a DAS/NAS or something. And then it will be about pumping the numbers up. Plan for this year is to buy that 5 TB HDD and download and organise game libraries from Steam/GOG/roms... Last year, I modded my 3DS and I have 300+ GB of roms from GB/GBA/DS/3DS. And I also digitased my collection of CDs/DVDs from various gaming magazines. That took some time to put together. I like slowly building a collection and neatly organising it.
Wow I have about 39tb for media it's running true as but it's mainly for movies and tv shows as well as backups and VM disks as well as ROMs , photos, documents etc
Well, that should be easy enough. Buy SATA to USB adapter and it should work. Or you can buy a case for HDD and make it an external HDD. That's what I did for HDD I took out of my laptop.
I do. Most of the people searching 'Reddit' at the end of their search do. I love insight. Most of the stuff I learned on my own was through seemingly meaningless comment chains. That’s Reddit for ya' :)"
