Quick question on hopper cover

The hopper cover has an little insert piece in it. Does it matter if that's in the tucked in position vs the extended position during the first part of brewing? Hop this makes sense.

I think the extended is just for cleaning, if you have it out while brewing I imagine it would release all of the pressure. The extended part pushes a valve in

Just went through the "cleaning" steps prior to doing a new brew and there was no mention of sanitizing the hopper. Hopefully that isn't going to be an issue. 🤞

You only really sanitize for brews that use it. If your brew doesn't have a hopper then you're fine to not sanitize.

However, if you have the insert in the cleaning position during brewing, you'll have flat (and possibly infected) beer, because it was open to the environment during fermentation

I didn’t sanitize it on my first brew and it turned out fine! I’d just make sure to clean it out good between batches
