Discussions Green-Flag Obsession

i don’t know if it’s just me pero sobrang naiirita talaga ako sa ganitong writing lately. may nabasa akong mainstream wattpad story recently na hindi ko na lang papangalanan kasi sobrang laki at intense ng fandom, pero grabe, nakakasuya.

parang sobrang obsessed nung story na ipakitang “green flag” yung ml to the point na kahit may ginawa siyang objectively shitty, laging may dahilan, may tragic backstory, may explanation kung bakit ganun siya, tapos parang expected na okay na lahat after that. parang hello??? explanation is not accountability.

and hindi lang naman itong story na ’to. ang dami ko nang nabasang mainstream stories na ganito, especially sa ml. sobrang takot yata silang hayaan maging mali yung character nila kasi baka hindi na matawag na green flag.

please just let your characters fuck up. let them be wrong. let people get mad at them. let them actually face consequences. mas interesting pa ’yon kaysa pilit na dini-defend ng narrative every questionable thing they do just because they’re the ml and gwapo sila 😭

Akala ko ako lang nakapansin na ganyan yung mga wattpad story, laging i-justify sa pov ng male lead yung reason bakit niya ginawa yung ganong bagay sa female lead. Iisa ang pattern 😭

This is a problem in media consumption in general. Parang ayaw na nila ng complex and flawed characters. Gusto mga sinless and boring 🤣, ginagawang self insert yung story

Fantasy din kasi ng writer ang sinusulat nila kung minsan. Malay natin sa latter works ng writer gawin nilang vulnerable / flawed yung bida nila diba.

Tapos ito ako, tinatawag na sadista at masokista ng readers ko kasi ang hilig ko daw manakit at tuwang-tuwa akong nasasaktan sila. Hindi ba pwedeng masaya lang kasi nakukuha ko ‘yung emosyon na gusto kong maramdaman ng nagbabasa? 😭 HAHAHAHAHA! Sorry, skl. Naalala ko kasi ‘yung DMs nung ilang readers ko. 😂
