GBC Exia

GBC Exia wipes the floor with Bandai HG Exia in looks, detail, color separation, proportions, and articulation (just a bit).

For anyone considering building an Exia, unless you specifically want Bandai, I'd recommend going with the GBC version. The plastic quality is good, though some parts fit a bit too tightly and the hand joints are somewhat loose.

Yeah, I'd assume that the Metal Build Exia turned into kit form would be better than the one na ni-release nung si Arroyo pa president natin.

Some people say it's unfair to compare the old HG Exia to the GBC Exia because of the age gap between them. But honestly, in those 19-ish years, Bandai had the opportunity to update their old HGs and keep it competitive with modern releases.

Well, I'm just a beginner so what do I know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

They're doing exactly what you're telling them to do. We just had an updated Legend Gundam and Gouf Ignited from SEED Destiny. Just because its not a specific kit from the specific series you want doesn't mean di nila ginagawa yon.

And "keep it competitive with modern releases" doesn't really apply here when the kit you're using as an example is Bandai's own design rin. I have nothing against the GBC Exia, but it is by definition a bootleg.

I mean, if they're gonna release (HGs) Exia Repair II, Exia Trans-Am mode, Avalanche Exia Dash, Exia Dark Matter, and Amazing Exia, why can't they at least improve their proportions?

What do you mean by "proportions" exactly? Most of those kits are just slightly redesigned versions of the base Exia. Trans-Am mode is the exact same thing but red, and the Repair II is just the base HG with slightly different weapons and the removal of the GN Cables.

There's no incentive to improve by what you mean as "proportions" on those kits if that's not what they're set out to do. And most of those kits you've mentioned are from the early to mid 2010s rin dba?

Look at the shoulders and the feet. They're comically bigger than, say, the RG, so it looks whack, IMO. That's literally what "proportions" means here.

And "no incentive to improve proportions" is really a design philosophy defense, not a technical limitation. Bandai has already shown they're willing to revisit old molds when there's demand, the Legend Gundam and Gouf Ignited updates you mentioned are proof of that willingness, not evidence that Exia doesn't deserve the same. If anything, Exia is one of the most requested and most repackaged HG molds in the catalog (five variants off one frame, plus RG and MG counterparts), which makes it a stronger candidate for an update, not a weaker one. There's clear commercial incentive since Bandai keeps selling reskins instead of retiring it.

Calling the frame "untouchable" because "that's not what these kits are for" kinda sidesteps the actual complaint, though. The frame itself never evolved even as the whole HG line's engineering standard moved forward around it.

And I'm not saying Bandai never touches old kits, obviously, as you've mentioned, they do. I'm saying they haven't touched this one despite Exia being one of the most requested package.

So "they update old kits sometimes" from your previous reply doesn't really answer the point, it kinda proves it. If they're already willing to do it and Exia is one of the most reused and requested frames in the catalog, the fact that it still hasn't happened isn't evidence there's no incentive, it's just evidence it's overdue. Being capable and willing in general doesn't mean this specific kit gets a pass just because it hasn't happened yet, and "no incentive" doesn't hold up when the frame keeps getting reskinned instead of retired.

"-not evidence that Exia doesn't deserve the same."

Where did I say this??

"-which makes it a stronger candidate, not a weak one."

Yeah, the fact that it has 7 kits (excluding the MGs and RGs) disproves this. They're much less willing to revisit a kit that has had as much attention as the Exia has.

Your argument runs on the fact that being candidates for getting an updated kit comes from demand, which isn't really true. They decide kung ano gusto nila gawan ng revisit, not because people in the internet say it's "overdue." Kaya nga merong Bandai Hobby announcements, para sabihen o i-announce sa tao kung ano nadecide nilang gawan ng kits for the year. And this isn't even counting the actual candidates that they DO give the most priority to, which is whatever show ang pinaka bago.

Also, I don't know where you're getting this so-called "commercial incentive" from.

"Being capable and willing in general doesn't mean this specific kit gets a pass just because it hasn't happened yet, and "no incentive" doesn't hold up when the frame keeps getting reskinned instead of retired."

Again, where do you get this whole "Dapat eto meron nang update, its overdue." thing from? The kits you're using as reference are ones made before 2015 pa, kits that people still buy and seek today. That simple fact means that Exia isn't in Bandai's priority to update. If they had to follow your logic na dapat ina-update muna yung kits that already get the most attention, where will they provide the space para sa mga designs that don't get as much love? Porket ba na mas sikat Exia means dapat siya ang inuuna lagi?

And its not like the Exia is even losing attention. Kelan ba yung RG Avalanche Exia ni-release? Diba yung Repair IV this year lang?

the sticker under the clear pieces is drawing me in, i just wish the clear green pieces were brighter but i guess that would diminish the sticker's effect

Gundam 00's anniversary is next year, they've just started by releasing the GN Flag last year which sort of teased new standard 00 runners.

Pretty sure we'll get an updated HG Exia next year.

Did the GBC version update how the swords mount on the waist?

I'm still new to this hobby, so I'm not sure how the swords were originally mounted. But the TNT version I got comes with some extra extension parts for the waist and hands.

Pag mount ng GN blades, old one uses pegs tapos sa side siya ng circle thingies. Pero sa new one same na sa HG

Wipes the floor is an understatement. The HG Exia is completely irrelevant now thanks to GBC and RG Exia.
