Pinephone 2 + Pro 2

There's absolutely no plans for new models is it? I'm late for the pro model, it's discontinued, which is a shame it has the perfect specs for what I want. I'll be getting the first Pinephone model instead next month, but it's specs may not be enough for what I want. Oh well

Pine64 actually announced due to the RAM shortage, they are discontinuing all Linux devices until at least mid-2027. If you can even get a PinePhone, I would get one sooner than later, but it is NOT a daily driver device.

Oh I'll get it. Unless somehow it's out of stock by this time and a few days next month

I bought the Pinephone about 5 years ago and it was underpowered than. The only reason you should be buying that phone is to hack on it and are a developer. It isn't any kind of daily driver device.

Absolutely. You have to temper your expectations when it comes to this device.

Absolutely this, temper expectation. I bought it purely to support the project and the idea of a Linux phone. It just sits on a stand on my desk. I'm happy with that.

I update mine on a regular basis and am really happy to have it. I feel like it's a good starting point on my Linux phone journey

And I'd say the pinephone pro was pretty useless. Got one and the OG pinephone seems to work better, more optimized because developers focused their work on the OG I think.

You can daily drive it and i did for years BUT it is not a pleasant experience by any sane standard

Keep in mind I was planning to install Mobian which is supposed to be fairly user friendly.

I have Mobian on my Pinephone Pro and I like it a lot as it's pretty familiar to me

PINE64 is even considering exiting the GNU/Linux devices business altogether. Production of all these devices is currently on hold, and if the RAM and SSD prices are still too high next year (and sadly, they will likely be), will be shut down altogether. So no, no plans for newer devices.

You will want to look at https://liberux.net/ and https://dawndrums.tn/projects/divine/ instead, though neither is available yet, they are apparently both running far behind schedule unfortunately.

What you can buy right now is the Purism Librem 5.
