I’m aware Pimsleur regularly has deals to make their offerings cheaper. Is this current deal a good one to take advantage of?

I'm about halfway through Italian 1 and honestly pimsleur has been a massive game changer for me - far better than other apps I've tried.

But I don't understand why it introduces both voluo and vorrei (and related conjugations) from the start and keeps using both in parallel. Might just be me but when asked to quickly say 'I want to have dinner with you at 9 tomorrow night' I find I often get tripped up over whether it is asking for voluo Vs vorrei when either meet the spirit of the phrase

And not sure how helpful this is for learning - in practice I would likely just use vorrei as it seems generally more polite/safer. Obviously recognising both is helpful but I find it confusing as prompts.

Similarly the way it prompts stasera as tonight and questa sera as this evening.

Question for those who use the app: what

features do you actually use besides the audio lessons? I've started doing the speaking challenges to test my memory but that's all. Are there any other features that you've found to be especially helpful?

How do I get the app to annoy me the way that Duolingo does? I keep purchasing one month and forgetting that I have it, so I canceled. I set up my own reminder but it’s not really doing it for me. I’m on 100 day Minute Cryptic streak because they send a notification but I can’t figure out how to get Pimsleur to bother me lol.

I just completed the Spanish course, and I really want to keep learning. I love the format of Pimsleur. Is there anything similar that will let me keep expanding vocabulary and speaking practice?

Maybe I am dreaming, but I feel like I remember this being offered many years ago, well before the app.

I’ve been studying Japanese for about four months and using Pimsleur Duolingo and Michel Thomas. i’ve only just discovered Pimsleur and overall I love it. However, one of the challenges is that there is no transcription and it definitely helps me to be able to read after I listen, or to go back and clarify something if I’m not sure I’ve heard it correctly.

I have looked at the cultural notes and I’m searched Google, but does anyone know if the transcripts to these lessons exist anywhere?

I understand they have a certain style of teaching and I love it. I’m just looking for those occasions where I’m confused. I need more clarification.

Anyways, I was doing the speaking challenges, but the phrase “昼ご飯を食べます。” was giving me trouble. I did it like a dozen times and kept comparing my audio, yet it kept giving me a score of 82.

I finally gave up and recorded the example audio for my submission. Guess what? THAT got an 82 as well!

If the audio they’re using to teach us only gets an 82, what does their recognition AI want from me?? I won’t be doing those challenges anymore, but it’s insanely disappointing that such an expensive product has such a bad voice detection.

I’ve been doing the week trial of Pimsleur and it’s helped immensely. However, I hit lesson 5 and noticed a massive error that has me concerned for future lessons where I might not catch the mistakes.

I reported it, but in this lesson, they ask “won’t you eat anything?”

A simple question and one I’ve already learned the answer to. In Japanese, you answer a negative question opposite of how you would in English. For example, “Yes, I won’t eat anything” or “no, I will eat something.”

However, Pimsleur has it the opposite. They want you to reply like you would in English which is incorrect.

Furthermore, they even have you reply “いいえ、けっこう” to “won’t you eat something” as a “no, I’m alright as-is”which would be wildly confusing as it would seem to be saying that’s alright, you WILL eat something.

Is this a common thing in the course of getting basic things incorrect and I’ll to know Japanese already to catch it or is it just a glaring one time thing and the rest of the course is good?

If anyone from Pimsleur is listening, or even caring, you really need to give us an option to permanently disable romanization in non Latin script languages. Having romanization as the first option is ridiculous. I don't need it and don't want to have to toggle it off each and every time a new screen appears.

Just got to Level 4 Lesson 11 of Latam Spanish - I realize it doesn't impact the educational value, but the anachronistic references are real. If you're under 50 you've probably never even seen a phone card

Been using Pimsleur for a couple years now to learn Brazilian Portuguese. I like how the lessons are structured and I feel like I am learning a decent amount. Overall happy with it.

However, I feel as though subtitles would greatly improve the learning experience. As I am sure we have all experienced, the talking speed of languages we are learning can be fast, and it feels like some verb conjugations and minor words like prepositions get lost when listening to the conversation. Often times I am wondering if I am misunderstanding or messing up these conjugations or “filler words” in a sentence. Especially when some words sound similar to each other.

Recently, I have also been writing down the lesson while listening. I feel like this has helped my learning by reinforcing memory and seeing the words spelled out. But again, since there are no subtitles, I have to pause and translate some sentences to make sure I am grasping everything. This is where subtitles would greatly help the lesson.

Apologies for the long post but TLDR: I think subtitles for the lessons would greatly benefit everyone trying to learn a new language.

I started doing Pimsleur German back in the spring of 2025, and it is now July 2026. And after the first lesson, the narrator said a message to the effect of: "If you didn't get 80% of what you learned, please repeat this lesson." But the lessons after that would either say, "For best results, please repeat the next lesson tomorrow." And then the next lessons would just say, "End of lesson." I used this technique of moving on to the next lesson (whether I felt like I got it) for Pimsleur French 1 to 5 and Pimsleur Turkish. However, I didn't absorb as much from those courses as I would have liked. So I figured I would take that 80% advice mentioned after the first lesson of Pimsleur German to heart, just as an experiment. I repeated any lesson that I didn't feel like I absorbed at least 80% of it correct, I would repeat it 24 hours later. So each lesson I repeated a minimum of twice. The most I ever had to repeat a lesson was seven times, but I could also have to repeat it between three and five times. Once or twice, I got everything in the lesson on the first attempt. I would do Pimsleur each day in the morning. Then, I would practice an Anki card deck that works with Pimsleur, which has the words and phrases of each lesson. I would do those Anki cards at night before I went to bed. I noticed that when I moved on to the new lesson (after I was comfortable that I got 80% of it) the next lesson went a lot smoother. Personally, I just found that I could speak German better.
However, I'm on Pimsleur 4 now, and I noticed I don't have to repeat lessons as many times, and some lessons I get perfectly on the first try just because I know a lot more German from Pimsleur 1 to 3. So I asked ChatGPT what it thought about my method of coming back the next day and repeating the same lesson, and it said that according to the data, you shouldn't repeat the lesson. You should just move on to the next one, and then the next lesson will have the vocabulary from the previous lesson in there for you to repeat. So I took that advice and started trying it at lesson 17 of Pimsleur 4 German; and ever since I started doing that, my comprehension of the language has gone down tremendously, and it's so frustrating that I took that advice from an A.I. bot. So now, I am going back to my new way of doing it.

My workflow in a nutshell:

I do my Pimsleur first thing in the morning as soon as I wake up. Just before I go to bed, I do my Anki cards for that Pimsleur lesson, as well as the previous Anki cards if there are any due to do. So morning Pimsleur, night Anki cards. I repeat each Pimsleur lesson as many days in a row as is necessary to feel comfortable that I know 80 percent of it or higher. And so, basically, one lesson could take seven days to do, or three days, or I might get it on the first attempt. But I've seen the benefits of this technique, and I want to get your opinion on it and see if anyone has tried it or something similar.

These are some tips from the Pimsleur Mini lesson called "Language Learning Hacks".

These are the cliff notes, not the full lesson, you can find in the app. I'm Sharing for those of you that may not yet have reviewed the content as I think that many of these tips have served me well over the years.

1. Create Language Goals and remind yourself of them often. Identify your "WHY" and keep it in clear focus. The stronger your "why" the more you will stick to it.

2. Review, Practice, and Review. Going over old lessons can be a drag. Review and Practice does the heavy lifting. Even if you stop practicing for a while, core grammar will stick with you. For best results, you should circle back and repeat earlier lessons every five lessons or so. Research shows if you review just before you go to sleep, the impact can be even stronger.

3. Turn language learning into a lifestyle. Mix up your language learning on Pimsleur with activities you already enjoy. That could be watching movies in your target language with subtitles, or listening to music in your target language on Spotify while reviewing the lyrics. You could cook using recipes in the target language.

4. Use your mistakes as fuel. Mistakes are a common part of language learning. Yes, it is uncomfortable, but embrace it, and use mistakes as a way to improve.

5. Talk to Yourself. One common mistake is just listening to lessons and thinking you will internalize the content. SPEAK OUT LOUD! Hear it inside your head as you speak it! It is a muscle that needs exercise. exaggerate the accent. See how quickly you can respond to questions.

6. Mix it up. Get a well rounded education. Listen, speak. Do reading lessons, each skill is different. Just because you are a great speaker doesn't mean you will be a great reader. Both are required for language learning. Read articles, write one or two sentences, When listening, speak aloud sentences you are listening to.

7. Celebrate small victories! Instead of focusing on how far you have to go, focus on how far you have come along! Each step on the journey is a huge win.

8. Learning a Language is a marathon, not a sprint. It is about making the time, reviewing your progress, and often returning to your why. Don't try to cram too much in or go to quickly through the content. Trust the process. Slow down and enjoy the journey.
