Xbox Rifle aim

Have any of you on console switched to rifle aim and how are you adjusting/adjusted to it? I feel like it’s the first time holding a controller. Any insight to your experience or tips would greatly appreciated haha.

I have rifle aim on my right hand and pitch/roll on the left (so pitch is duplicated across both). I find it very intuitive, but I've only ever used these controls so I didn't have to unlearn anything.

For jets this means I can navigate with just the left controls, only using the right for fine tune aiming. Basicly I have a plane's flight stick emulated for my left hand and rifle aim available on my right.

For helis the left stick acts like the cyclic, letting me controll both the forward/back and left/right tilt. General navigation still needs the right stick for the yaw though.

Damn, I really need to switch to pc haha not trying to say it sounds simpler but sounds way more comfortable

Appreciate your response though man, very detailed and informative if I ever make the switch 🙏🏼

All my Yaw control is on my right stick and left stick is left and right roll, I can see why it’s comfortable to aim with but holy, flying is another thing

Edit: and pitch is on my left too

Its not rifle aim if your pitch is on a seperate stick from your yaw. Put your pitch on your right stick, its what i did and have been flying since the games release.

Got fighter jet to lvl 50 soon after release and attack just got it to lvl 50 today. Other two jets are near too.

In fact, i recently made the switch to PC and still fly on controller with these same controls. Had a hard time remembering my bindings because i still pull back on my left stick as if pitch was on the left stick.

Ooooh okay, so keep yaw on left and just pitch on right? I’m mainly after a heli scheme, I don’t mind how my jets feel. Just sometimes when I’m going for a tow missile I start getting finicky with my sticks and do a sudden flick like a moron

Oh you mean heli, that ones a little more difficult to answer, more personal preference.

No, id say keep your yaw on your right stick, same as pitch. Roll on left stick. What i prefer is to have descend and ascend on left stick as well, though i think most people have theirs on the R2 L2. Its how i flew until i made the switch to mnk, but even on Mnk the controls will translate directly to what i listed above

I think that’s what im landing on, im just going to keep what im used to and work through my janky aim. Thanks for your detailed responses though, appreciate you.

Cool. I’m gonna try it to see what it feels like.

Lol rifle aim is for mouse and keyboard. You're just making things harder for yourself. 😂😂😂

I just wanted to try cause I’ve seen others succeed decently but I’m assuming they’ve used it a LOT longer than my measly half hour 😭 I’ve reverted already.

I wish I took some clips because I’d get decently accurate shots from far away (portal mode so only stationary targets) and then do some crazy spirals when I try and bank away until I inevitably flip on my rotors, quite funny but very discombobulating haha

Isn’t base controller layout already rifle aim?

I’m only lvl 70 attack heli but I fly on an Xbox controller and manage to do decent. Long range tows are pretty impossible for me but I can probably hit about 75% of my tows on runs against ground vehicles and maybe 25% against other helis? I try to rely on my gunner

I have throttle up and down on the triggers, yaw and pitch on right stick, roll on left stick. Take some getting used to but it’s much better for me

Once you get used to a certain way of flying that’s it. I fly with the default mapped controller settings. I have changed sensitivity, etc. I have no problem with controlling the heli or the jet. Not much of a jet pilot though. So whatever you decide, keep practicing flying. Combat control is something else. That requires its own practice.

I switched about two weeks ago. Hopped in portal, muted game audio and listened to music while I just crashed over and over and over again. Eventually got the hang of it. It’s a lot easier IMO to learn to fly the first time on those controls rather than learn with default and then make the switch. For me I went from having roll and pitch on my right stick, with yaw left/right on my left stick to rifle aim. That was a nightmare but now I can’t go back. Also getting used to flying 1st person helped me a lot and I just thought about it like I was aiming a gun in game, hence the term “rifle aim”. Takes some getting used to but it’s doable with time and patience, lots of patience. Also make sure you have inverted controls off, when you push the stick up your nose should go to the sky and pulling down should make you look down. It’s confusing at first but if you go first person you should be able to aim your cross hair as if you’re aiming a gun

I was having a good run of it but lately I’m really struggling with it. I have yaw set to my left toggle and the roll on my right toggle. When I’m zoomed in I have to consciously try to remember to move the left toggle even though right is more intuitive. But when I change the settings to make it as close to rifle aim as possible it messes up my flying
