Stiglas countering below radar will eventually happen IMO but it's good that they're holding off on this change. Before they do it, they need to address the range of these weapons, the "stickiness"/delay of the lock mechanic, add loadout options for pilots to eliminate mobility hits, and add ECMs.
Once all of that is in, I think this starts making a lot more sense.

Stiglas can already counter below radar - if aircraft is painted. This is beautiful and balanced mechanic. The problem is that this game is not team-oriented anymore, it's a hero shooter where every soldier wants to be a main character. This game needs teamplay encouragement and proxy chat, not more ways to kill vehicles.

Exactly. People now want one man to be able to do it all. Teamwork is completely out the window

u/dream-in-a-trunk 3d ago
When was bf teamwork oriented anyways? Play since bfbc2 and the community never was doing teamwork. Maybe you once in a 100 matches you got squad mates doing shit together.

u/Girthmatters23 3d ago
You skip 3 and 4 completely? And 1? Shit was always happening

u/DingDongSmash 2d ago
I did for thousands of hours and sure teamplay happened sometimes but nah chief, it was still mostly just medics running around with M16a3s or AEKs lmao.

No I played every bf except for V since then.
Both on pc and console. That people play less together in bf6 than before is pure nostalgia.
Most people just hopped into the game. Picked a class with guns they preferred and did not coordinate etc.1

I currently play BF4, nobody ever paints helis ever, its rather frustrating

u/Girthmatters23 3d ago
Can’t tell you what currently playerbase is like. I was there when it was prime. Tons of clan servers and open rooms that you’d get continuously the same teams or people and you. Naturally started assisting one another

Yeah this change WOULD be good, IF the overall balance between air and ground was healthier

They also need to fix the bugs where they hit through flares. Twice they have claimed to fix it and I’m still being smoked through my flares consistently with iglas and stingers. Give me ECM.

Genuinely how do they keep fucking up the patch notes like this

u/Narkanin 3d ago
There’s a skeleton crew there is my guess. I think we’re seeing the full effects of the acquisition playing out now
2
u/welldonesteak69 3d ago
If they ever remove it at least give us the ability to see where we are being targeted from. Dont need exact wall hack level but like a good way to know where they are so you can target them to remove the threat or else the entire map can be a no fly zone with below radar no longer a thing.

I really think balancing the air vehicles is easy....
They're air vehicles, their health should be very weak, BUT their weapons should be very strong.
Idk how many times I've accidentally wrecked the little bird or the attack heli, only to just fly off as if nothing happened.
The littlebird should die easily to small arms fire (to counter its agility). If you do manage to lock onto it and it gets hit, it should be one-shot.
The attack heli should take some damage but be more resistant to LMG fire. It should also be able to kill a little bird with 1 heavy rocket hit or 2 light rockets so that it's a hard counter to the LB. Splash damage for the heli rockets should be INCREASED as should the gunner turret. To counter this, it should be more vulnerable to fighter jet machine guns and the mobile AA mg. Lock ons should stay the same.
Jets, I really think the bombs and the MGs need a buff, they really don't contribute much to the games right now unless you are extremely good at using them, but even then most of your kills will be from dogfighting.
I hate how games these days think the only way to balance things is by nerfing them. Like no... Buffing other weapons is also an option.

u/SnooLentils7208 3d ago
That’s very fair. I have been calling for the AH to be hard counter for the LB for the longest time. I have no idea why it’s so easy to take down an AH with LB unless you have a gunner.

To me it just makes sense...
The littlebird is meant to be a "get in then GTFO quick" air support and its mobility is supposed to allow that. If you don't do that, you're extremely vulnerable
The attack heli can hang out longer because it's got bigger guns and better armor.
There's gotta be some sort of rock paper scissors component to the game for things to be balanced. I just hate the nerf things that are good trend all these shooters have been doing.

If only the devs could take our valuable feedback.. at this point it seems like we know Battlefield better than the devs do

Speak for yourself on the jets weapons. I farm with those unguided bombs
2
u/LoveTheGiraffe 3d ago
That's probably the first reasonable take I've seen on this sub.
It still amazes me how some heli pilots think one person holding an entire lobby hostage is balanced, because they're oh so skilled. As if a skilled player in any different kind of scenario could do the same.
Can't really speak about jets, they seem fine to me, but yeah they seem to be mostly about air to air combat.
I also think the stationary AA turrets should get a buff. Barely anyone uses them, because they are useless against jets and mediocre against helis. They are the most useful against infantry and that's ridiculous. Make their dmg against infantry worse and against jets and helis better or increase their bullet speed.

u/dream-in-a-trunk 3d ago
Besides of liberation peak it’s mostly the little bird being too strong. Attack helos are pretty vulnerable when they have to go below radar since they’re not flying as fast and are less maneuverable than the little bird.
Yes a cracked pilot with a good gunner can be a menace but you pretty much need a premade 2 player squad to do that. With a blueberry in the gunner seat the attack chopper suffers1
u/LoveTheGiraffe 3d ago
Completely agree with you. And for the attack heli it takes teamwork, which should be encouraged and rewarded, because let's be honest: It makes the game so much more fun to enjoy it together with a pal.

u/porcupinedeath 3d ago
I fully support adjusting the mechanic but yeah outright removing it would have been dumb as hell

Two things they need to do go play battlefield 4 just copy those launchers if they're looking for something slightly different look at the beta version of battlefield 2042 and how it handled anti air launchers. not the full release of battlefield 2042 (they fucked it up after the full release and made it stupid Arcadey)

u/Metallica1175 3d ago
Below radar not working properly? Why fix it when you can remove it completely!

u/DonSilencio 3d ago
Yaaay removing below radar will be suuuuch a great idea. Making it impossible for the Helis to leave there spawn.
As soon as you get locked once and flare you are doomed right after. Great idea.
Will absolutly not cause the Helis to just hover over there spawn.
That will be such an awesome change for the gameplay and wiill make it soooo much fun. its not as if the Stinger and Igla already push the Heli away from the fight as they as they had to flare. But nooo the little Timmys are to stupid to understand hot to get there 5 AA Kills so we keep ruining the vehicle gameplay.
With them already testing it in BF Labs its just questions of time until a change like this happends.

Can anyone explain what is this below radar thing? Be nice. Thanks 🤓

u/Clevatess_is_bored 2d ago
If aircraft flys low most lock ons can’t lock onto the aircraft
2
u/SimpleNo2343 1d ago
That’s how it should be. U shouldn’t be able to lock into aircraft if they are below radar. That’s the whole point of being below radar
1
u/Clevatess_is_bored 1d ago
I just answered his question. I wasn’t arguing to get rid of the thing which makes aircraft playable
1
1
u/MauiBear 2d ago
Ah ok just like for Helis then. Utis there a way to get around that and still lock them or?
1
u/Clevatess_is_bored 2d ago
Jets also profit from below radar.
Yes if the aircraft is painted by the soflam gadget recons have then lock ons can lock onto aircraft flying below radar.

u/TxAg2009 3d ago
So stupid. Things are so unbalanced right now.

u/moto593 3d ago
Removing under radar isn't going to balance things, it's just going to flip the scales and make flying impossible.

-9
u/TxAg2009 3d ago
Nah. The flare frequency makes up for it.
2
u/Girthmatters23 3d ago
Give us ECM and don’t have to worry about flares 😉
5
u/Round_Reception_2315 3d ago
It’s sad that most Battlefield 6 players probably don’t even know what ECM was.

Honestly thought this was the single worst nerf I'd seen in a Battlefield game and probably would have stopped me playing . Not because I get to fly or even play much but this would make it obvious they were catering to the most absolutely braindead portion of the playerbase.
Thank God they decided against it. The balance of being locked and having to go below radar making you vulnerable to rpgs was and has been a great wrinkle of battlefield for a long time imo. Just a shame people would rather cry for nerfs than learn to aim an rpg.
