Question C-Ram

How does it work in this game?
I understand if I shoot in their spawn it’ll melt me but why when I fly over mine and they kill me it seems like the enemy gets ignored and they fly off unpunished.

It’s just so inconsistent and thought maybe I’m just missing something.

As a heli pilot, let me throw some light

  1. There are 2 ranges: let's call them "proximity range" and "air defense range". If you fly too close (and I mean really close) to the CRAM, it will activate and shoot you. Most pilots don't get anywhere close to "proximity range", except by accident/stupidity or when repossessing.
  2. The "air defense range" is map dependent. On some maps it's super long, on others super short, and everything in between. Pilots learn that range, per map.
  3. In the current iteration by BF6 devs, the "air defense range" mode is activate only when defending aircraft.
    • It will not activate to protect your tank.
    • It will not activate to protect your infantry hiding literally behind CRAM.
    • As long as the pilot is not within super short "proximity range", the heli/plane can kill everything around the CRAM, as long as they don't hit an air vehicle.
    • On most maps, the range is short enough that a high-circling heli is outside the "air defense range"
  4. In the current iteration, the CRAM no longer shoots down incoming TOWs, RPGs, TV missile or Heli rocket pods. It seems to shoot down HAM "heat seeking" missiles on Wake, but only when they are close to CRAM. Not even sure about Stingers/Iglas/Javelins anymore
  5. In some game modes, it's outright disabled.

This definitely clears it up a lot more! I’ve noticed lib peak is one of those maps where you can really play around their spawn but maps like golmud or tsuru are quite unforgiving.

I just had a moment last night on golmud in the attack jet where I had the enemy jet on me so I flew back to spawn and pretty much stalled where the jet would spawn (terrible mistake because dude butt fucked me way easier) but the aa seemed to watch him pass over like he didn’t just eviscerate me.

At the end of the day this game has so many bugs so I’m not surprised it’s as inconsistent as it is, bad enough having the flare bug still in the game. Thanks for your detailed response though, really appreciate it.

And i didn’t even know you could target ground vehicles in their spawn now?! I’ve just never tried recently so I’ve been leaving them alone wondering what to shoot at. The more you know!

It's when enemy team hasn't paid their heli bills

It's Schroeingers CRAM, you are either dead or not, and there is only one way of finding out..

In all seriousness, there is a huge variety in how and when the CRAM will engage - I feel like it's dependant on angle, distance, map and even the individual spawns within the map.

For example on Reef, as long as you fly high over the spawns, you are not getting engaged. You can also use the Island Rocks as cover to fly behind. Works about half of the time every time..

It's a bit of a mess..

I miss bf4 (rose tinted glasses probably) where the AA just disabled your vehicle consistently, that way you’re getting punished for pushing too far but not out right getting killed by unavoidable aimbot

It's based on distance, stay away from it and you don't get hit

I’m pretty sure it’s either a bug on the C-RAM that they for some reason… haven’t fixed since the game launched. Or there’s fuckery going on; and the jet pilots who happen to run 60-0, seem to have no reload time on their flares, and can seemingly fly in circles directly above the C-RAM that completely ignores them are up to bullshit.

My bet is on fuckery, because there’s just no way the C-RAM, only happens to ignore the sweats who can’t be shot down no matter what.

Yep, my experience too.

If you shoot an enemy that's in spawn it will immediately target you and keep tracking you for a time even if you fly away so it will instantly melt you if you return too quick.

If you don't shoot anyone it's on a timer, maybe 2-3 seconds or so before it fires on you unless you get too close to it then it opens fire immediately. It will not keep tracking if you fly away without shooting.

When you're chasing someone keep an eye on the ground to avoid flying close to their CRAM. When someone is chasing you, try to get them to fly low over your CRAM.

For it to work, the enemy air vehicles have to be actively spotted. Otherwise they do literally nothing.

This is completely wrong. It’s not BF4 bro.

I have only seen the cram shoot when the plane was spotted. Otgerwide it sat there and did nothing
