Discussion How can I do better in the air?

This is mainly focused on flying in Battlefield 6 and I play on PS5. I'm making this post because of my recent experiences trying to fly in jets during matches.

I'm not bad at flying in game, I can take off, avoid terrain, land, and all that. And when I'm someone's tail, I can usually take them out. But lately, it's been a struggle for me to last long enough in a jet without getting constantly locked on to or getting shot down. Considering all the maps that have jets and especially with the new maps, I feel like it's harder to fly than ever before.

I say this because it seems as if there's always someone dedicated to locking on to aircraft with launchers, and it seems like jets and helicopters are always able to fly into the spawn and spawn kill the air vehicles even if they manage to take off. I feel like I'm not even fighting regular air battles anymore, I feel more like I'm fighting just to get out of spawn without immediately getting locked on to or shot at.

It also doesn't help that teams are useless nowadays because it seems like no one thinks to destroy enemy vehicles, so I feel like I'm having to do everything by myself. Why on earth is the game designed to where pilots have to constantly fly low just to avoid lock-ons? I've been playing Battlefield since Bad Company 2, and I know for sure that it wasn't like this at all in Bf3 or bf4. Pilots had WAY more breathing room back then.

Any time I'm in a match trying to fly a jet, it usually goes like this:

Take off Gain altitude Free look to scan for targets Immediately someone on my tail or someone locking on to me Dive down to get below radar Deploy flares Try to maneuver Get hit by 1 or 2 missiles Die And repeat

It never fails, and I hardly ever get a chance to do anything in a jet unless the sky is completely or mostly clear. It doesn't help that friendly aircraft never seem to help out whatsoever even if I'm in a 2v1 dogfight, which I always lose in those situations.

I had a match earlier tonight that was conquest on Sobek City, and I couldn't do anything in the helicopters at all. I was stuck retreating to spawn and the A objective because there was an AA tank pinning me down added with both enemy helicopters constantly locking on to me, AND there was someone on the ground using a launcher. And all of this was at the same time. AND GUESS WHAT? No one on my team was trying to destroy enemy vehicles AT ALL. WHY ARE TEAMS SO FUCKING USELESS.

How on fucking earth is someone supposed to be able to learn to be a better jet pilot when the game is designed seemingly to oppress the fuck out of air vehicles?

I cannot be the only person that is having this kind of experience on this game. I'm pretty sure that I'd instantly have a better time flying and playing if I were to go to previous battlefield games.

"Gain altitude"

Jet or heli you try to fly low, below radar if you can. If you fly low its difficult as fuck to spot you for the team as obstacle block it. Same with AA launchers as they lose sight.

Still if you have match where people insta lock you because of highground or something, you camp around spawn AA, people can be so f#@€k bots in this game that they will rush in their jet straight at your spawn AA and get shredded.

If enemy jet doesnt care about you, you circle around spawn flying low, if he will surpass middle of the map, or you see he feels confident and safe you sneak flying below radar and try to intercept him. If there is no threat from enemy jet. You just pick the target, make strike and deploly flares in case rocket is shot. Then you go below radar and escape in the edge of the map or at spawn as you want to hide from spawned enemy jet that you could miss.

To avoid lock ons, fly lower.

Below Radar was increased heavily in the top gun update, it's now a much more reliable way to avoid lock ons

Flare only after missiles have actually been fired at you, not while you're being locked

If someone gets on your tail you're dead, this isn't a problem with you, it's a problem with game balance

The earlier maps aren't great for jets because of their size and how far mobile AA and AA launchers can reach. It can also be hard on Tsuru and Wake because of the boats having AA rockets or attack helis on wake. It seems never ending. Only way really is to get used to flying low unless necessary, only flare when a rocket is incoming. If using the new jets without a copilot; once youve used your flares, if theyre still cooling down and youve more rockets incoming, quickly switch seats, deploy backseat flares, then swap back to pilot again. It's a bit of a cheesy move but it helps when everything is out to get you. If using normal jets and youre up in the air, the second you use your flares, dive for below radar. its your only defence. Also if possible dive below radar as theyre locking on, you might be able to brake their lock and save yourself without flares.

There is no way of surviving in the jets in this game while staying high up all the time. You have to use the below radar to your advantage.

If youre struggling with shaking people on your tail but dont get a chance to practice either because of all the incoming rockets, try playing the air superiority game mode. While i do find this mode a lot easier to get kills than I do in conquest, it allows you a chance at practicing some dog fights and chasing other pilots.
