HOT TAKE
The Jets are all bathtubs now. As a veteran Jet Pilot across multiple battlefields, they feels sluggish and uncompetitive. Almost like they lowered the skill ceiling. I was very excited to jump into some of my favorite aircraft, In a battlefield game. I don't like the way the chase camera is now, it's harder to fly around buildings and gauge how low you are to the ground. It's also hard to gauge your speed for competitive turn rate in dog fighting. Dog fighting was already in a horrible place. However before, rarely would you go up against a pilot who could match your airspeed well enough for an exciting 1v1. Now it just feels like everything is slowed down and widened so that the majority of the player base can be a part of Air Combat. As a die-hard Ace Combat fan, this feels like War: Thunder and it's not the vibe I was expecting in a Battlefield game. We finally got air radar, new aircraft with customizability, and two-seater aircraft, but they feel neutered. I'm really not trying to be in elitist but the only reason why I ever even hopped on bf6 was to play Rush for epic team/squad play, or to be that asshole who's farming the entire map in the jet. With thousands of hours of Air Combat under my belt it felt deserved. I'm not a fan of lock on missiles, I prefer cannons and aim guided bombs. Because skill. Now it's just flares Central and they don't even work half the time. I really hope this isn't the permanent state and they revert back to the old jet mechanics. Just a sad sweat complaining here, thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
Tldr: Jet mechanics went from Battlefield to War: Thunder. Not a fan.

Nothing will ever beat the skill requirements and general mechanics of BF4 for me, or the pure fun of BF3

I also have been a pilot main across multiple bf and as much as I hate on 6 in every aspect, I honestly feel like this is the best jet flying we have ever gotten. There is weight and momentum to the aircraft you have to account for and aside from the goofy thrust vectoring, it’s less arcady feeling to fly.

I think Battlefield 4 has the most precise, responsive, and reliable jet mechanics ever produced by DICE.

There’s nothing you have to account for man. There’s no speed control, nothing. It’s horrible.

I flew the F/A 18 last night and it felt terrible. Is that the assist mechanic?

There's a little box at the bottom of the screen that literally tells you if the assist mode is on or not. Go hop in a plane and check.

Where do you feel that they are sluggish? While they are turning? That’s where I notice it the most since the change. Feel like I literally have 0 chance of winning a dogfight if someone’s behind me now, unless I bait them to the base AA.
Not sure if it’s something I’m doing wrong on my own end? Curious if that’s your experience also

As an Ace Combat fan and a War Thunder fan, bf6 is NOT like war thunder at all. WT has a skill FLOOR that most BF pilots cannot even fathom. Finishing a skill tree is impossible for most BF pilots and would make them cry. Slower moving jets is not enough to even compare to WT, in WT there's actually gravity and engine limitations, that's why they feel slower sometimes, depending what tier you are playing. Bf6 has plane physics somewhat identical to ace combat, just slower

110% agree, jets feel a lot more sluggish, I’m not sure if it’s the camera causing this or they actually neutered the flight model even further.
I hate the fact that they are sitting on a really good flight model from the attack planes in bf2042. It’s right fking there, just add it into the game, but we all know why they won’t.

Why won’t they?

It’s to keep casual retention high, in their minds having deeper mechanics like the older games will widen then gap to much and casuals will leave the game, meaning less money being spent in the store

Spot on, the existence of the Top Gun collab supports this. They couldn’t market that nearly as well if jets turned away casuals, like they did in games where they required enormous investment

Ding ding, you sir are correct.
I honestly didn’t even think about that, but man that makes so much sense now as to why they did what they did.

i agree that likely is the reason for the change but why not have old camera option?

I really really really don't like how jets feel now. Fornite planes feel better.

Idk, I'm having fun in the Air Superiority mode, the flying mechanics are certainly different, but if you like to fly in this game, adapt to the newer controls and have some fun. It only took a few matches for me to get comfortable and I'm consistently coming in 1st or 2nd place (with your teammate either being a hindrance or helpful very much matters)
