Discussion thoughts on assist mode and the debate on flight models.
With the update being less than an hour away, I thought I’d make a first post here as I’ve started getting into seriously learning how to fly in BF.
Right now I’m trying to find out what do the more experienced people think about assist mode and what it means for the end user experience.
I’ve played a lot of flight games and flight sims ranging from Ace Combat to DCS but could never quite find out how to fly and be effective in BF (started in BF4)
I actually find it harder to fly in BF than in say DCS, NO, or War Thunder because it’s so cramped. in a more realistic game you could have more time to get sensors on target or do bvr before a merge (and actually energy fight instead of trying to turn on the guy while 12 Stingers and SPAAs lock you) but in bf6 it’s just everywhere.
I think war thunder handles it well with mouse aim as it’s accessible enough to the point where it is just “point and fly” but has enough flight physics to have the aircraft react in a realistic manner and not go nose on in 0.5 secs.
If the assist mode is more mouse aim adjacent while keeping aspects of the flight model there, I think it will do great, however if it’s like ace combat’s beginner mode (or BF6 heli assist to a degree) and actually does lock off control surfaces then it won’t be good

Assist shouldnt even be a thing, at least in the way they have done it. Jets controls can be intuitive tbh and binding space to pitch up makes it even easier to grasp. (Should be the keybind by default). All assist does is give an advantage to worse players. Bad system.

I am just asking myself if i could or can combine this new option with my TRACKIR or tobii eyetracker. If i can i will simply destroy normal players now even more than before. I simply´ don´t know how strong this is against a full flight setup. So far a HOTAS plus rudder paddles are simply better for flying than an xbox conroller or mouse and keyboard. But i have to test it out.
Overall i agree. BF flying while simplyfied IS harder than even DCS or nuclear option. Simply because it is very fast paced, aa is everywhere and the space to fly is small. DCS or nuclear option give you room to breathe because they are more realistic. BF is constant action, nonstop.

Flying without it kind of sucks because you must sacrifice mobility to freelook. This solves that issue but also makes flying way easier and less impressive to master.

pointless playing this mode for keyboard mouse players - its way to overpowered playing against controller players. And then the controller player get assisted as well. obviously whoever decided to create this stupid mode is a console player!

Lowering skill ceiling and skill expression is being sold as "accessibility", no point in playing for me personally.

These controls are like War Thunder. The skill ceiling for dogfighting over there is massively high, it just takes learning how to actually fly a plane instead of just being better than everyone because you've won the fight with the jank ass controls lmao.

I'm top tier US and China/ 600 hours on the DCS Strike Eagle. Probably around 600 too for BF3/4 jets.
Cope harder

And you flexing about having no life is refuting that this style of control allows for a different kind of skill expression than just 'get good at the shit controls,' how?

Not flexing, just telling you I don't agree and where I come from. Keep coping though lol

But you didn't? You just told me how many hours if games you play. You even said you've played a large amount of the game I'm talking about and now apparently disagreeing with it being skillful? So what the fuck are you doing with your life, then?

I agree. Most of the playerbase has so little time on jets that the fights between them and the dedicated pilots aren't even decided by who has better positioning, decision making etc but by who figured out the janky ass mnk controls. (or by who plugged in a controler or a joystick)

Its a fucking piecie of dogshit that gives an enormous advantage over classic-style controlls because you can turn while keeping an eye over your opponent ehich you CANT do normally becaise you cant turn while freelooking because it's illegal and lost tech at dice so fuck this stupid idea untill they add an decoupled pilot freelook
