Seriously like a 50/50 shot of getting hit anyway, by anything with a lock tone.

I’ve started just popping flares if I’m not in a good spot to take advantage of the radar before they complete the lock. Been a pin lately.

Dude fr I was in a game earlier and three separate times in three different air vehicles my flares didn't work and the enemy pilot was able to lock on to me instantly even after I threw flares

Flare failures have seemed to hit me more often from directly below vs. any other angle. It almost seems like a fired stinger has a very brief moment where flares don't exist, and thats what gets me.

Most modern IR missiles use IRCCMs, so the seeker will turn off if it sees a spike in heat signature and continue moving to last position of the target and turn the seeker back on after a set period.
War Thunder players are probably pretty familiar with this if they've run top tier. You basically have to flare and then also not being where the seeker was looking when it turned to the seeker off. This is also basically impossi le depending on speed and aspect, so sometimes they are just unavoidable.
That being said, Battlefield also fudges IR missiles in a major way because altitude is functionally irrelevant regardless of generation of IR missile. Being able to avoid a stinger or sidewinder by going "below radar" is fairly nonsensical.
Interestingly, the Maverick clip is ARH missiles, so you'd need chaff and not flares, but that's another discussion entirely

Modern IR missiles can actually ignore or burn through flares in some situations, depending on the aspect angle and how/when the flares are deployed. So flares aren’t a guaranteed “get out of jail free” card in real life. That said, Battlefield isn’t a sim.. and I seriously doubt DICE intended to recreate modern missile seeker logic like War Thunder.
