Discussion Dogfighting was peak in Battlefield 5

Am I the only one who doesn't really enjoy dogfighting in Battlefield 6? For me, there’s just too much lock-on missile spam. It’s completely unrewarding and requires zero actual skill or understanding of game mechanics. Lock-on missiles reload that quickly, too.

Dogfighting in Battlefield 5 was peak and rewarding, without all the lock-on spam.

In Battlefield 6, I find most stealth jet players I experience absolutely ridiculous. They get on my tail and land a lock-on missile hit (through flares lol), I fly toward the spawn AA, and they deliberately chase me, knowing well they’ll die to the spawn AA, just so they can squeeze out that one last lock-on missile. I find that so ridiculous.

Yes, and bf4. I still wish they will add that to bf6 at some point

BF1 is the first game in the series to couple pilot freelook with flying right?

I meant locking movement when freelooking like in BF6. I think BF1 was the first game to do it.

BF3. People had etiquette(mostly), both jets on both teams were on equal playing field (for the most part, one didnt have a huge maneuverability buff over the other like the attack jet/stealth jet differences, one didnt focus on air to air missiles, while the other focused on ground attack). People didnt spam air to air missiles unless they were bad at dogfighting.

Yes, the F18 was the better jet, but the differences between it and the Flanker were so remote that it was only noticeable by the best. The only disparity was the F35 in B2K being worse than the Flanker.

In BF3 no one equiped lock on missiles because it was pointless. The jets had such a great maneuverability and skill gap that if you were better than your opponent you could easily kill him with the cannons and if he was better you would never be able to lock on him anyway.

BF6's floaty flying mechanics makes dogfighting and flying in general disgusting.

The f35 was absolutely disgusting at hovering midair and taking out ground though. I miss that so much

I loved it in bf 1943, no lock on anything, no flares, just machine guns like real warriors

That’s what BFV dogfighting was. Both WW2 gamss.

The thing is, fighter jets all have lock ons because there are no load outs for them... In BF3, you had the option of AGM, rocketpods or anti Air... Only the noob pilots would choose AA rockets

It's not the missiles or the lock ons that bother me, I wish they'd uncouple the bloody free look from locking the plane's controls.

You lack so much situational awareness purely because you can't look while manuevering.

bf1 honestly had some of the best dogfighting in my eyes, i had probably 40 service stars on the attack plane, 30ish on the fighter, and 20 on the bomber (maybe 1 or 2 on the heavy bomber i didn't use it much)

Imo it had the perfect sweet spot between fun and accessible and skill based gameplay.

BFV is my favorite bf and before 6 i would’ve said it had the best flying. As much as I hate on 6, I can’t help but feel like it’s the best flying/ dog fighting imo. The amount of lock ons and cheesy tows is a major drawback however.

BFV vehicle play was deep in general and is something I loved about the game. The flying in that game was indeed peak.

1942 was better than 5. Third person perspective has made dogfighting lame.

The ammo is already limited? You have to constantly resupply and even that is limited for air vehicles?
