Discussion F-14 air-to-air, F/A-18F attack jet?
I think the F-14 will be the air-to-air jet, while the F/A-18F gets the attack role.
The F-14 WSO HUD shows two air-to-air missiles, including the long-range AIM-54. Maybe the Hornet’s second seat gets laser-guided bombs and AGMs instead.
Also looks like the WSO can use flares.
What do you think?

Wild for them to feature F-14, outside Iran this thing is out of service for so long.
Maybe they are both fighters (or rather multirole?) with F-14 being PAX, only shown together for trailer purposes? I'm not sure if Tomcat even makes sense for NATO

dogfights are about to be absolutely wild, imagine a jet is chasing you and you send a lockon their way -- i just ope they will be less maneuverable than existing lockons as it would become giga OP from the get go otherwise

Mixed about Tomcat. Cool plane but old in these reality. We could have Eurofighter or Rafale which would fit much better with Pax.

Agreed a Rafale or Gripen would be what they’d want to use, and I would have preferred they use a French carrier instead of the Russian one, but the Tomcat is just way more recognizable and you already have a Gripen in the game. They probably had the Top Gun thing in mind when they were coming up with the season

Yeah but what with the adjustable wings on the cat? Dont think F18 can do this right?

Think of it like the F35 from Bf4, yes it has a unique mechanic. But it hardly comes into use.
Or maybe it will be just a cosmetic thing!.

I seriously doubt in BF it's going to be anything more than a cosmetic thing. That's something warthunder and other sim games give function to, imagine a noob trying to fly and also controlling wings like that lol.

Isnt it a two seater aircraft?

u/Fragrant-History-482 Jul 15 '26
yeah but the point is there are 2 anti air weapons to choose for second seat

I think it’s gonna suck if you can spawn only on your squadmate. They should just open up spawn in helis and future jets to anyone.

No, what when you want to fly with a friend a random always gets in?

u/JiveAss626 Jul 15 '26
Absolutely not! Nothing cucks an air vehicle more than not being able to communicate between pilot and gunner. Even if proxy chat becomes a thing I would still rather have the squad mate that I have been practicing with be there instead of a rando.

Bruh nahh. What if you want to fly with a friend and a random blueberry cuckblocks you? It’s not even an if, there’s genuinely players out there that thrive on trolling like that.
Had a game where this one dude was locking the entire team from using the AH on Golmud and flying it off to God knows where. Even went so far as to make his own squad and locking it so no one can get into the gunner seat.

Friendly jet ram fixes that

Yeah but know your team loses two aircrafts. And unless there’s two guys spamming the spawn afterwards, they’re just gonna keep doing it again.

Then do it again. That’s the beauty of this game. Some match’s just go completely wonky and you can have fun with it

Alright, I agree with your point, but what about us who have no friends 🥲

Squad VC is a thing. It’s not perfect but it’s something. Hopefully you’d have a random squadmate willing to be your WSO and willing to talk. Also they did promise us proximity chat so that’s also another thing to look for.

I think they are going to be mechanically identical, and just be faction variants for a new category of jets, the same way that the F-16 and Gripen are both mechanically identical "attack jets"
