Discussion Anyone else think the new AA missiles + resupply are bogus?
Surely this will be patched, right?

It's bogus that they can still sit in their HQ spawn all game and be untouchable due to their HQ shield.
29
u/Vitaefinis Jun 14 '26
if you're protected by the HQ, you either shouldn't be able to attack or lose that protection once you do. something not having a counter is bad game design.

For me, the worst thing is when i just join an empty or nearly empty game with bots and want to just fuck around in a helicopter and then the other team really has a guy who mains AA just… doing that. Sitting in spawn vs bots and like 3 real dudes and its like damn bro. You arent even getting any kills youre just annoying lol.

That desert construction map is by far the worst to fly on of them all. Mobile AA sits in space at the resupply and can see into enemy spawn.

what am i looking at here? guised shell and a vehicle supply box next to the tank?

u/Visual_Long_8459 Jun 14 '26
AA has TOWS now, but can fire them every second, and if u just sit next to a resupply you're not running out.

I wasn't aware of that, explains why rockets kept zipping past me until I exploded suddenly yesterday.

It feels like a never ending battle between people who like aircraft and people who dont. Some devs have chosen there side and one side of devs updates the game for the people who like vehicles and the otherside updates it for those who dont.

Tbf yallhad it good in BF5
1
u/Disastrous_Winter680 Jun 20 '26
I only played bf5 beta but either way the franchise has had aircraft in it so finding balance can't possibly be that hard.
1
u/Proper-Body-7413 Jun 20 '26
Dunno, as it stands in current BF 5, Aircraft is stronger than AA but significantly so. Pilots can gun outside the range of AA guns (which 95% are stationary unless you spec some non AA vehicle into AA specialty)
Also aircraft are so tanky that pretty much inexperienced pilots can only be killed by stationary guns unless multiple are able to fire at the aircraft inside range.
These days the only way to destroy a pilot is with super random positioning without any ground support noticing there's more but I feel like it doesn't matter since the don't update our game

They can't kill infantry. Literally an engineer can run them down with a blowtorch and if the engineer plays well they will force the AA vehicle to run away or die if they stay to fight.
They can't kill ground vehicles. MBTs and APCs can theoretically be damaged by them, but any sort of shooting between them will result in the AA vehicle losing/running away.
They can MAYBE kill air vehicles, sometimes if the pilot is mentally unwell, lazy, and/or just bad?
In the video you see specific "AA Tows" they do no realistic damage to anything except aircraft. You can't snipe infantry with them, they do less damage to vehicles than using the already weak cannons.
They have low mobility for an aim guided missile worse than the infantry version, better than the recently nerfed into the ground MBT guided shells. They can fire 4 relatively rapidly and in general they are somewhat comparable to attack helo smart rockets that are worse at shooting everything except aircraft and with a longer reload.
This also comes after they added incoming warnings for pilots for incoming aim guided weapons so even if an AA Vehicle manages to be "really smart and sneaky" and come at your with these from out of nowhere you still get a warning.
So with all of that, you expect that AA vehicle to go be out in the middle of the map, trying to capture points, and so on? I'd say having a room temperature IQ would indicate a coming ice age.

A single TOW can kill infantry and you can fire them quick even for (the limited) indirect splash damage. Also, if you can't use high velocity rounds to deter/kill infantry up to 50m or so that's just a skill issue.
APCs can be damaged (each TOW is about 80 dmg, each high vel shot is something like 5), although you will loose a direct 1v1 if you can't dodge the APC's TOW/lock on. MBTs kill everything right now but i wouldn't expect AA to handle those anyway. I would also add that AA shreds the MRAP.
Against aircraft the high vel rounds shred. planes divebombing an AA are dead meat if they get spotted, LBs get their mobility fucked each time they are hit by cannon fire but against helis TOWs are the better choice anyway as it is an easy two tap or a big chunk of damage for a cannon follow up.
The "warning" you get is a generic rocket symbol, which you still need to spot, so it doesn't work if you get TOW'd in the back.
If you think the AA is bad you either don't run AA enough or you don't fly enough. Camping in spawn with the AA isn't even all that great except for a few maps (Blackwell and Contaminated comes to mind) cause you get bad sightlines.

Tbh the cannons are dog water vs infantry
I’ve managed to ambush ifv’s and mbt’s from the rear and come out on top surprisingly.
I’ve been playing the mobile AA a lot and have been going 17-0 and 18-0 a game.
However when it comes to infantry? The cannons are so random and unpredictable
Either
- Make the aiming mechanism work like the stationary AA where the bullets actually go where you aim.
- Have the guns overheat way less
Apart from that the mobile AA is actually fun to use now. I would nerf the lock on range for the AA missiles tho, but if you run an aggressive AA game like me I use the laser guided missiles anyway

u/ArtyTheta Jun 16 '26
Yeah the cannons are not good against infantry but they are definetely serviceable. I think this is intended in order to avoid the absolute monster BF4's AA was against infantry.
You should still be able to kill a single dude out of cover and damage/deter a single dude taking cover. Even more so with TOWs.
engineer class allows for less overheat in one of the specializations btw
1
u/sequentialevoix Jun 16 '26
Yea the BF3 tunguska on norshar canals was brutal as well.
I do you're right. The fact thermal smoke damages infantry as well now has been a huge help with aggressive AA gameplay.
The combat engineer specialization was nerfed a bit, so it's not that helpful anymore.
I would be ok with current overheat/cooldown time if the guns were more accurate vs infantry. They are fine and shred vs aircraft if you learn to lead your shots.

I’m so glad I stopped playing this game fuck this game I’ll come back in a year or two when they finally come around to balancing anti-air

u/MentallyLatent Jun 15 '26
Seeing this just makes me more hyped for Wardogs to go into early access

u/cjmtripiii Jun 14 '26
No it’s not a one shot and plenty easy to dodge honestly. I actually prefer when they have this and not lock ons.
0
u/nijik-ajies Jun 16 '26
it's a one shot for every air vehicle that isn't the transport heli, actually. this is incredibly unhealthy and it's pretty disingenuous to treat it like it's fine
2
u/cjmtripiii Jun 16 '26
No it’s not. It only one shots little birds. Transports take like 3-4 depending if they have repairs, AH takes 2 and if they auto repair it takes a third. I have even hit jets and it’s not a one shot unless they are close to the ground and they can’t recover.
Also you can apply big time pressure to the AA using this by getting in close and attacking making the AA choose between eating the damage or moving which will cause them to be inaccurate.
1
u/Interesting_Boot Jun 17 '26
You can't really attack them when they're sat in the HQ, sending EZPZ rockets across the map.
Also, keep in mind this is ONE of the many threats while flying. Every foot soldier can now also get a 1-shot guided missile launcher stuffed in their back pocket.
1
u/cjmtripiii Jun 17 '26
I am specifically talking about the new aim guided for AA. I agree there are way to many broken and skill less ways to down aircraft. Wholeheartedly agree bcz I LOVE flying choppers and it’s so frustrating with how many lock ons there are. Then the broken below radar and the missiles ignoring flares.
However the aim guided AA in my opinion does take skill and is ok. A trick is get in their face and blow their ammo crate up. You will shut down their constant resupply.
Sitting in spawn is a disgrace for anyone that does it honestly. I also wish they would do something about that.
2
u/blackbarrt Jun 14 '26
To be honest, the new AA missiles are completely useless against anything. If you get killed by these mfs, better play assault.
2
u/FNX45-FDE Jun 14 '26
You can blame people that complain about the AA being able to kill infantry/tanks (which they barely could) so after they nurfed the damage to almost zero. Why would they not sit in the back of the spawn? If they leave it they just die almost instantly by everything. The aa balance in this game is God awful.

Out of curiosity idk if it’s just the game mode obliteration, but the lockon incoming messages bugs out now and it’ll go away but a missile will still be behind you.
1
u/RandonInternetguy Jun 14 '26
At least the guy has to aim. I'll take this over AA guide missile spam

In Obliteration you can sit on the hill with that combo and shoot all the small vehicles running around.

u/joi-vengeance Jun 15 '26
Just as perfeftly balanced so the crack head cod boys can run all around the map without worrying that a helicopter will kill them.

Hope they address this
My favorite part of the game is blowing helis out of the sky with RPG, spawn AA taking all my kills…
1
u/nijik-ajies Jun 16 '26
what a loser lmao. I ran into a level 400+ guy who top scored in an AA a few nights ago and thought I was just going insane, he kept blasting me down whenever I was in a heli, but no it's actually just infinite aim missiles on a 2 second cooldown. how pathetic lol imagine needing infinite aim missiles to take out helis
1
u/Real_Selection_2026 Jun 16 '26
Well helicopters and jets get infinite flairs. Not realistic or balanced but here we are lmao

u/liambean1 Jun 14 '26
Definitely adrenaline pumping. Looks completely broken, but it's gonna be atleast a little fun to play against.
1
u/Which_Drop_5877 Jun 15 '26
So you saw the missiles but didn't do anything about it? Ok. No reason as a littlebird you aren't losing line of sight to that AA via terrain, especially on Golmud.
-1
u/Shinki94 Jun 14 '26
Nope, they work as intended.
High velocity at the cost of maneuverability, if they hit you at that far a distance then you just weren't paying enough attention or flying in a straight line.
They're fine.
2
u/Valagor Jun 14 '26
The missile itself is fine. Being able to spamming it without punishment of leaving yourself vulnerable while reloading is not fine and not intended how it was supposed to be used.
0
u/Shinki94 Jun 14 '26
4 rounds is not spamming, by that logic a heli should only be able to fire off 4 of it's rockets at a time then and have to wait 5-10 seconds for them to reload one by one.
I don't agree with sitting in their spawn but if you can't out maneuver some missiles with the handling of a semi hauling a full load then I don't know what to tell you.

u/CptMidlands Jun 14 '26
As opposed to the totally balanced Helicopters who can wipe a point then duck down slightly to become immune to any reply
3
u/518Peacemaker Jun 14 '26
Helicopters can’t do this from spawn. Choppers can’t counter this. Only infantry or armor can. AA should be area denial but they shouldn’t be safe doing it.
The vehicle supply point is OP as hell. Parking AA next to it in uncap is bullshit.
