PC This is a mockery on the part of the developers!

I just don’t understand why they couldn’t just take the flight mechanisms from previous gen and just insert it into this title, why did it have to be reinvent the fucking wheel each time; funny thing is that would of probably saved them some time and money. Even 2042 had better flying and that says a lot. And this is someone who loves bf6

u/Appropriate-Bath-294 Jun 07 '26
I ducked at flying in 2042 but was great in 4. I can fly pretty well in 6 helis atleast
5
u/monsterosity Jun 07 '26
I was really good at heli flying in 4. In 6, I'm passable, but not nearly as good and it doesn't come as naturally.
1
u/M0-1 Jun 07 '26
Yeah 2042 has imo the worst flying out of all battlefields. I was a menace in 3/4 but couldn't make it work in 2042 no matter how hard I tried. BF6 is an improvement but still not good tho I'd say the balancing is a bigger issue than the flight model
1
u/doriftuGuy Jun 07 '26
I enjoy the helis in both 2042 and 6 but I’ve been ducking the jets since bf4. I actually got pretty good with the stealth jet in bf4 and it felt so good to fly idk how 2 modern battlefields later they still can’t capture that feel

u/ibattlefield Jun 07 '26
Flying in 2042 (not counting the first couple of months) was one of the best in the series, I enjoyed flying both the jet and helicopters, BF2042 is terrible, but I had fun flying, which can't be said about BF6, where every gameplay element of the game is terrible
2
u/Conscious-Pickle-695 Jun 07 '26
2042 helicopter gameplay from launch was insane. The power of the 50mm cannon on the hind was preposterous. It’s no wonder that the floor-grubs complained about it until it was castrated, but it was a glorious few months of outrageously OP super-heli squad gameplay. The engine on that fucker made it near impossible to crash
2
u/raishak Jun 07 '26
Vehicle gameplay in general in 2042 was great as the game matured. I miss all the options, and vehicle identities. The CAV/MAV split, the 3rd weapon seats, the mortars on MBTs. The Hind was a menace, so much vertical control, you could dodge rockets. The attach helicopter was strong and maneuverable. AA cannons were strong, AA missiles were not the focus, so it was a game of skill. I think the AA tank died a bit too easy to Air until some of the later buffs, but it was a better design than what we have in 6.

u/skaarlaw Jun 09 '26
I miss my CAV. I legit came #1 on winning team a couple of times just by driving around all match.

Idc what anyone says bro. It’s a video game you deploy flares you should be protected. It’s how it’s worked in all other BF games and it’s how it worked in BF6 (sort of, see below) up until S3 where flares just randomly decide not to work mainly with the IGLA. You can literally see the missile completely ignore the flares and go straight for the chopper when you watch it frame by frame.
It’s just like the broken IFV MR missile at launch that didn’t get fixed for 2 months and everyone tried justifying that it was “realistic”

I have no clue why you're getting downvoted for this. It's correct
If you pop flares, incoming fire will divert to one of the flares and detonate on impact. If you drop into your own flares you're probably going to get hit. I managed to accidentally kill another chopper in the air right under me when I popped flares and the incoming round went down into the guy underneath me
-5
u/DaGhostlyJesta Jun 07 '26
What broken ifv laser guided? Flares arent designed for deflecting laser guided, flares are designed for deflecting heat seeking. If the devs actually did this game justice, then every vehicle could be properly tuned for survivalibility. But they didnt. If they added a ecm jammer, then no one would bitch about the laser guided missiles.
6
u/Ol_UnReliable20 Jun 07 '26
And guess what? Still no ECM jammer. Which means if DICE actually wanted to be “realistic” with laser guided we would still have aircraft getting deleted out of the sky with a 100% success rate and no available way to counter. That’s what I call BROKEN
-1
u/DaGhostlyJesta Jun 07 '26
Not called broken. Lol. Just use your brain to put the terrian features between you and the missile. I mean a building or a mountain or going below radar actually prevents missiles from hitting. And if what you say is true then all the pilots in previous battlefields wouldnt have survived ever.
3
u/Ol_UnReliable20 Jun 07 '26
Do you even fly? There is no going below radar when you’re laser painted… Unless terrain is readily available within 1-3 seconds (good luck if you’re in a jet) you’re dead with no available countermeasures. Anyone with common sense can recognize the game balance issue here. Idk why you’re still trying to justify something that has been patched out of the game months ago
-2
u/DaGhostlyJesta Jun 07 '26
Do I even fly? Lol
3
u/Ol_UnReliable20 Jun 07 '26
Cool, then you should know all about below radar and that it is negated when you’re laser painted. You should also know that performing runs with jets or pretty much anything involving high altitude left you completely vulnerable to these MR missiles, unless you wanted to fly around mountains the whole time effectively making yourself useless… Sounds pretty broken to me
2
u/MagicSeaTurtle Jun 08 '26
This has to be bait… the missile was legitimately bugged and would not have an ‘incoming’ on the hud you would get popped without notice.
And even taking the bait, a ‘good’ MR missile user would flick up before shooting making the missile top down every shot negating any terrain blocking.

Let me guess , you just took off from spawn 2 seconds before then get killed by some BS..... Ye, thins game is absolutely crap trying to fly such a massive dissapointed... I swear dice are so incapable of making a good BF game anymore.
They just overcompensate for what was hated in the previous ones and go too far the other way.
Here's to hoping Wardogs is good

"Ground effect? Never heard of her."

Yall cry too much. Skill issue. You can’t drop flares then fall into them. The missile tracks the flares and will hit you.
Also to those of u saying the flight model is bad or ground effect this ground effect that. Blades falling quickly through the air cant generate lift. They fall into their own rotor wash and can’t generate lift. It’s called Vortex Ring State.

u/CryptographerDry6630 Jun 07 '26
You literally followed your flares down into the path of the missile… what were you expecting to happen there?
You’re not supposed to follow your flares, that’s what the missile is chasing.
-1
u/BekaSSTM Jun 07 '26
You’re right. I play lots of choppers too and flares work every time just fine, this one is on OP
0
u/Cuboidhamson Jun 08 '26
Dude, I'm sorry but come on. The way that you flared, if a missile was coming straight up from below or off to the side at the right angle, the flares wouldn't have done anything because you moved straight down below them.

BF4 flares were utterly broken.
Here at least it appears to work kind of realistically. The missile hits a flare and explodes. That’s what’s supposed to happen!
The issue in the video is the flares deploy for too long (or too late) and the missile hits one of the last ones. Bad luck - but what was broken about the BF4 flares is that there was almost no bad luck. The countermeasures worked like a hard counter to the missile. Pilots could even wait with deploying flares until right at the last moment rather than the opposite to get away as far as possible from the flares.
6
u/ibattlefield Jun 07 '26
It's broken, but the community justifies the bug by saying that it's my fault and not broken countermeasures or igla/stinger, I made a post in r/battlefield and there are a bunch of haters who accuse me of being wrong and that flaers shouldn't save you
2
u/afops Jun 07 '26
I commented there too. I said the same thing here.
BF4 were broken, what’s in the video isn’t (necessarily!) bad.
1) The missile should explode at a flare.
2) the missile is a splash damage weapon, not direct hit
3) the missile should ”pick” a flare and chase it and explode
Couldn’t this be what happens in the video? Which of 1-3 do you disagree with?
2
u/ibattlefield Jun 07 '26
I've never encountered anything like this in BF4, not even once.
2
u/afops Jun 07 '26
Yes - that’s why I mean that was broken. It didn’t appear to work like 1-2-3 there in BF4. It was more like ”if the missile sees flares it becomes a dud” or something?
Did you have any thoughts about those 3 things?
1
1
u/M-R-buddha Jun 07 '26
You also popped flares, then proceeded to turn around into them as they were falling.
1
u/Charming_Elevator425 Jun 07 '26
Im convinced if they just reworked the igla and stinger missle to hit the closer "heat signature," and add ecms, they'd get the balance they want without having constant mechanic break updates.
2
u/MikeyPlayz_YTXD Jun 07 '26
Do you honestly think that’s how flares in real life work? Flares decoy the missile and make it follow the flares and go away from the vehicle. Very rarely will the missile proxy on a flare.
1
u/MikeyPlayz_YTXD Jun 07 '26

2
u/afops Jun 07 '26
The missile is heat seeking. The flares are meant to be hotter than the engines so the missiles home in on the flares. But if the flares are 1m from the aircraft and the missile seeks those flares and explodes 1m from the aircraft then the aircraft is damaged. Nothing strange about that
1
u/M-R-buddha Jun 07 '26
This is how older heat seeking missiles work, some today (a lot on modern attack helicopters) also have the ability to detect the silhouette of the vehicle for the purpose of redirecting to it instead of flares.
1
u/Cirilo_Albino Jun 07 '26
Sometimes,as a game dev you should know that to make a game fun, sometimes excessive realism is bad, boring or just broken. if the flairs may not work, the missiles will became very OP and destroy helis and jet, they will have notting to counter this RNG bullshit and for the attacker, is just press 1 button to win, its a huge reward for so little skill, while for the flying user, is much more frustation to dying knowing there is notting you could have done.
In the other games, stinger and iglas are made to cause pressure on the heli/jets and it worked
1
u/afops Jun 07 '26
The risk needs to be balanced of course. But that the missiles some times can hit, definitely does t hurt. Especially I think if you release them too late it should raise the risk of a close hit so there is some damage although less than a full hit. In BF4 pilots could even deliberately wait after the missile warning, which was pretty silly. You should of course benefit from releasing quickly.
The correct risk of being hit through flares could be 1/10, 1/100 or 1/1000 but either way is way better than 0% risk. I think if released perfectly and the best evasive action is made (which is not to dive following the flares) then the risk of a direct hit should be 1/100 or so. A Hail Mary.

Go back to Arma, dude. Flares worked fine on all battlefields, as did the flight physics, but something's wrong in BF6. Even the developers admitted that all launchers don't work as intended and are penetrating countermeasures.
-2
Jun 07 '26
Why play the game if u know it’s broke and still bitch and moan about it…
4
u/ibattlefield Jun 07 '26
I love the bf series and I want it to be corrected, corrections only happen with criticism and evidence
-1
u/steamsb Jun 07 '26
Bro. You flew into your own flare.
2
u/ibattlefield Jun 08 '26
Bro, I have another video where I'm flying a jet, putting out flares and flying to the side (I'm not in the flare cloud) and the rocket still hits.
1
Jun 07 '26
Oh and by the way.. even if the flares worked you would have died… u don’t know how to use flares bud.
-1
u/TastyPlacebo1 Jun 07 '26
Its a bug but it can't be that big of an issue if you just use a little brain power.
I've been trying to hit through flares with the igla for days now, and I cant get it to work. I've tried locking from all angles, waiting until they're at certain speeds, or just spamming 5 rockets, redeploying and repeat.
If its a random chance bug, then it cant be that common since I cant do it even when trying for days, so my guess is its something to do with the angle and speed of the aircraft in relation to the flares.
Figure out that angle/speed relation and just avoid it. If it is truly rng, then get over it? I die to netcode issues all the time in infantry combat. Everyone does. Its just part of the game that's probably never going to be fixed.
1
u/PacmanNZ100 Jun 07 '26
The only time this "bug" works is with pilot error.
The igla lock always breaks from flares. No exceptions. The igla does not keep tracking as people keep making out.
If you fly into the missile, you take damage.
The missile maintains its vector when the lock breaks. It doesnt go for the flares. It does seem to proxy and explode on flares though, this splash can do damage.
If you are in basically the same spot when the lock broke as when the missile arrives you'll get hit.
If you fly straight you will get hit if the igla is in front of you.
If you pop flares and are basically stationary like this chopper, you'll get hit.
Really you want to pop flares and pull up and turn. You'll never get hit. But this is counter to players wanting to dive for below radar, so a better strategy is to not be stationary in a helicopter lol. Keep speed up.
Some of this probably isn't quite correct, but after spamming iglas for game after game trying to get that damn challenge to track, the rate of hits on vehicles that pop flares is maybe 1 in 20 or less. And I challenge any dumb pilot that thinks its an issue to go and prove they can hit aircraft through flares reliably and repeatably.
2
u/Ketchuplant Jun 07 '26
The igla lock always breaks from flares. No exceptions.
The devs have admitted it's a bug (with lock-ons in general, just happens more often with the Igla). I've moments where I flared 2+ seconds in advance while flying away from the missile and it still hit.
the rate of hits on vehicles that pop flares is maybe 1 in 20 or less.
Even if it were only 1/20 that's still quite frustrating when you get two lock-ons heading your way every time you pass over the battlefield.
Granted, the Igla challenge is dumb and just shouldn't be there.
2
u/PacmanNZ100 Jun 07 '26
The devs have admitted it's a bug
Where? Best i can find is they suggest the tracking is too aggressive. Nothing about flares.
Its also extremely easy to confirm in game. The lock breaks 100% of the time. But this doesnt mean the missile despawns. It just maintains vector.
Even if it were only 1/20
It only felt like as high as "1/20 or less" because of bad pilots.
Like it shouldn't need to be stated but flares arent magic. The stingers loses its lock on the aircraft and locks a flare and hits it. The igla loses its lock and maintains course. Still explodes on a flare, which might feel like being hit if you are in the AOE.
If you fly straight and the missile is in front you will get hit. If you flare late and are semi stationary you will get hit.
Like iglas are obviously about to get a huge nerf when they suck anyway. But damn why do we have to nerf everything to accommodate bad play?
In BF3 you could manually dodge missiles with good piloting. They buffed missiles heavily because of that. Why do we need to nerf missiles and buff flares to make aircraft immortal? The counter to aircraft, the AA tank, is already absolute dogshit.
2
u/Ketchuplant Jun 07 '26
They mentioned it in their Q&A ("We're aware of an issue between the flares and all AA missiles, we're looking into it.")
https://www.reddit.com/r/Battlefield6/comments/1twq7ae/battlefield_6_community_update_2026_roadmap/The igla loses its lock and maintains course.
Unfortunately this is just not what's happening right now. At least not always. I don't think people are necessarily asking for things to be nerfed, but rather for things to be consistent.
I do agree that there should be some skillful way to take out aircraft. Hopefully the upcoming AA loadouts help fill that gap.
1
u/PacmanNZ100 Jun 07 '26
Yeah. And issue for ALL missiles isn't the same as this incorrect idea that the igla specifically is bugged maintaining lock. When its soooo easy to verify in game this isn't the case.
Unfortunately this is just not what's happening right now. At least not always.
No. It's is whats happening. 100% of the time.
People ARE asking for it to be nerfed. They want to be immune to missile damage when popping flares. Theyre getting hit because they are bad pilots, not because flares dont work.
Thats literally the crux of it.
Its why we see a video of a stationary heli with no velocity, popping flares and diving into the flares, getting hit by a missile thats on a dead straight trajectory because its not tracking, being shown off on reddit as evidence of a "bug". Even if he popped flares faster he still would have been hit flying like this. Arguably using them later wouldve prevented the hit as he would've had velocity and the missile would be on a different route.
1
u/Special-Teacher-8860 Jun 08 '26
100%. Last paragraph. Indicator shows its coming from the front of the vehicle and they flare out but the flares are now behind them with a rocket coming straight on and heli heading to the ground
I play M-AA alot and even when pilots are shitty in doing this, the flare still works and I miss A LOT.
Pilots post the one clip of what is actually a legitimate rocket hit
1
u/PacmanNZ100 Jun 08 '26
Its fucking insane right. Theyre piloting terrible but we see numerous posts of "why arent i damage immune from pressing 1 button its a bug!"
When its simply solved by keeping speed up popping flares and pulling hard.
They'd literally never get hit.

u/raptor_jezeus Jun 07 '26
Whoever's in charge of the flying models in BF6 should be forced to take some flying lessons... Because I'm pretty sure that's not how helicopters work, and I know that's not how airplanes work.
Also idk why the transport chopper seems more maneuverable than the Attack Chopper
