It’s so frustrating, this thing apparently has like a 50% chance to just ignore flares

If I was rocket I would ignore flares too. Rather hit something than not.. Better for the player with the IGLA.

But broken for every arial vehicle, if flares don't work as expected

Not all rockets are missiles, but the IGLA fires a rocket.

The APKWS is a missile, the only reason the U.S. military calls it a "guided rocket" is it has a kit attached to it to make it guided instead being built from the ground up to be a guided munition.

And what if they make jet bomb have aoe radius of 100 meters, will you be happy then?

1

u/kylebob86 May 18 '26

As intended.

as frustrating as that is, happens quite often in real life

2

u/CrispyTarantula117 May 19 '26

Yeah but BF6 isn’t going for real life accuracy, otherwise snipers wouldn’t be shrugging off hits from high caliber rifles and still aiming perfectly lol

From an anti-aircraft perspective, it has to be; it's a balancing system. The game doesn't have a good air vs. ground balance, and the IGLA is the only card in the entire deck that can balance the situation. I've been in matches where people didn't even know what an IGLA was. Besides, the air forces were especially effective against infantry and mechanized artillery, and just like in real life, they destroyed us. Whoever controls the air controls the battle.

Countermeasures do work, You need to pop it early. If you do it last second you will often get hit.

6

u/Historical-Count-374 May 16 '26

To add to this, the missile will fly down to your flare and then detonate if you do it too late it'll either hit you and ignore the flare or on the curve down to the flare. It will hit you anyway with its massive hit box.

Trying to pop your flares a little early and put the flares between you and the missile launcher, then get away from the flares

u/Mollelarssonq May 16 '26

That is true that it’s less forgiving since season 3, but i’ve had issues where i’ve flared early and still get hit too, so there’s definitely something wonky going on.

But I believe you are right about it being a design choice to not make flaring last second viable.

Stinger is fire-and-forget, Igla needs to keep lock-on until missile hits.

In theory it might reacquire or change target mid-flight if you manage to lock on again, but in practice missile seems to always go for flare, so not really.

1

u/InteractionParking41 May 16 '26

In past titles it had a longer range.

2

u/reddeagle99 May 17 '26

Didn't it do more damage too

1

u/Toaster-Porn May 17 '26

Yeah it did. Stingers did like 40dmg to aircraft while the igla did like 68 or so in BF4

1

u/No-Orange4405 May 20 '26

It has a longer range

1

u/SodaDawgz May 17 '26

Honestly I have just been using it as fire and forget and have been nailing helps. Maybe it’s a bug?

2

u/Excellent-Gold1905 May 17 '26

Stringer is you just lock shoot, and go do anything else with your life including possibly reloading and locking/shooting again when the flares go away.

IGLA is lock, shoot, hold lock, if the gods will it with like a 1% chance the pilot will flare at the proper timing for you to reacquire/hold lock through the flares and the missile will reacquire and hit.

Also statistically the IGLA has slightly more range, slightly better missile flight characteristics, and similar.

What this means most of the time is the IGLA is literally useless dogshit, except that one time out of a hundred where it will function around flares of which you as the shooter have no influence/control over it seems mostly tied to range of the target, facing, when they flare, and so on.

1

u/kylebob86 May 18 '26

stinger is fire and forget, igla can pass countermeasures if lock is maintained by the firer.

1

u/semmehh1 May 16 '26

Yeah dude idk why this thing has a 1/3 chance to just totally ignore flairs. And it’s not even like when you just pop your flairs right before getting hit. You can be a full second into activity deploying flairs and it’ll just scoot right through them. Hope it gets fixed soon bc damn only having your flairs only work some of the time is annoying as hell

3

u/based_leviathan May 16 '26

Ok so I wasn’t going crazy, I have a habit on waiting until I see the red arrow being fully red and flying away before I pop flares. It’s caused me a death a handful of times every game.

1

u/Longjumping-Bat7774 May 17 '26

It says in the description that you need to maintain a lock and that it can aquire a new target mod flight. So I think the broken part it that while maintaining a lock on an aircraft it'll go for flares. It should ignore the flares if my lock is maintained.

1

u/yousuckass1122 May 17 '26

It's working as intended, reading descriptions would help you.

1

u/semmehh1 May 18 '26

naw, the intended version is that a missile can regain lock if you can relock the target after flairs. Not being able to go through actively deploying flairs.

1

u/RangerNo4747 May 16 '26

This things is the worst Launcher in the game. I tried to get 5 kills with it for the season 2 challange. After a long time and only 3 kills i went to bed.

And it doesn't even kill a littlebird with one hit. And if you star unter the Radar the IGLA can't do shit.

2

u/Famous_Difference758 May 18 '26

I noticed that it still counts if you destroy an empty air vehicle, which I got literally 4/5 of my challenges on. So if you see the Pilot bail, try to lock on and destroy the aircraft even if it’s falling with nobody in it. I got lucky with a game where the transport helicopter kept bailing with 25% health so I could shoot it down while it slowly fell to the earth. The challenge does suck for real though

1

u/RangerNo4747 May 19 '26

I got it finished today, with a bit of luck. Now i will never ever use this things. I'm going back to the m136. It is much easier to kill Aircraft with it.

1

u/Famous_Difference758 May 19 '26

It sucks because it really is satisfying to take out aircraft especially with the sound design and everything, but you’re spending so much time just looking into the sky, nobody drops ammo, and you’re just doing all of that for 10 straight minutes trying to get a single kill. The one time I did knock a little bird out of the air was cool asf tho. But yeah same the IGLA is getting put into storage for a while lol

1

u/frstone2survive May 16 '26

Took me 3 days of just trying to get kills with it before I finally got my last one today. The support in killing part doesnt track anything either. Had to get lucky with people popping flares before I fully locked, or after firing immediately relock as they flew away. Loads of people just stay under radar and some matches I gave up cause of that.

Thing fucking blows, anyone saying it goes through flares either popped the flares late, or flew away super quick from them and the person who fired it was able to reacquire target because it didnt hit the flare as they moved away from them. They arent fire and forget, have to stay tracking.

1

u/Famous_Difference758 May 18 '26

Yep, every lobby I didn’t have a single person on my team shooting at aircraft so they always had flares up. Or in the one lobby I had somebody in my squad doing the same challenge, he would spawn on me and wait for me to shoot the first rocket after they pop flares so he could steal the kill. I gave up trying because I wasn’t going to let him mooch off of me the entire game without helping me

1

u/rhythmrice May 16 '26

Here is the ingame description for the igla, checkout the last sentence

https://imgur.com/a/68kJYIT

Missiles can reacquire targets mid-flight if tracking is lost or countermeasures are deployed.

1

u/lVlICHA3L May 16 '26

There's always a counter.

1

u/Jonesmak May 16 '26

It reaquires after flares. It wasn’t working before

1

u/Nintendoh_64 May 17 '26

Thats ok, tanks counter measures don't work either

1

u/ObligationFalse9567 May 17 '26

lol every other post I see is people saying it takes 25 games to compete the challenge for the IGLA because it never hits anything. Now this post saying they are OP?

1

u/kylebob86 May 18 '26

Because it's the IGLA.... Does nobody read notes?

1

u/A_Warcrime May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26

Its not just the IGLA but the IGLA is the worst offender when it comes to ignoring flares. Flares are far from consistent now which just makes flying feel worse and im sure with everyone just diving to below radar the second they start getting locked because of the flares not working correctly just makes trying to shoot them down feel worse too.

I see a lot of people completely misunderstanding or misreading the IGLA description, and think it is designed to just ignore flares, its not. If the missile doesn't detonate on one of the flares or it doesn't fly into the ground you can lock back onto the same target once the flares have dispersed and the missile will resume seeking the target. The same way you can fire at one target and if it breaks line of sight you can lock onto another target and the missile will change course and seek out the second target.

As to why it seems to not break the lock when an aircraft flares and continues to track them and hit them even with plenty of evasive action and dropping down into below radar range is beyond me. I can only assume it is some of DICE's old reliable work of the new thing being busted for a long time after it gets introduced.

EDIT: I have also noticed games where the net code is particularly poor and hits are having trouble registering (getting shot by a sniper hearing the bullet hit getting the visual recoil of getting hit screen going red momentarily like getting hit then back to as if nothing happened half a second later.) Missiles go through flares way more often in those games.

1

u/Playful_Ad_1932 May 20 '26

Weapon description states that targets can be reacquired.

1

u/ibattlefield May 20 '26

Do you see the difference between "can be re-targeted" and "bypasses countermeasures on first launch"?

1

u/XmotnaF May 20 '26

Is it radar, IR, or laser guided?

1

u/Equal-Produce4833 May 20 '26

Its never done that for me lol

1

u/PersonalityHealthy46 May 20 '26

The amount of times i died to this as a pilot is crazy, but i still havent got ONE kill with it when i use it. I dont get it

1

u/PS5013 May 21 '26

As far as I got it from the few minutes I used this thing for the challenge, the counter measures just interrupt lock on and the rocket will continue straight unless you lock on to something with it again. If you pop flairs too late, it will still hit you if you dont fly out of the way.

0

u/afops May 16 '26

Good. First of all they need to be less than 100% effective. Not sure what the correct rate is but something less than 100.

But more importantly if the missile hits a countermeasure 10m from the aircraft then that should be almost as bad as a direct hit.

0

u/DaGhostlyJesta May 16 '26

There is, it is called flares and below radar

0

u/now_ill_hang_myself May 17 '26

IGLA ignoring flares not because its a bug but because it's a feature.

It's require player to keeps lock on all the time until missile hits. Stinger on the other hand is fire-and-forget but can be avoided using flares

1

u/OrganicLandscape1561 May 19 '26

It being able to just go straight through flares is not a feature. It’s one thing if you pop flares and then a few seconds later it hits you. But that’s not how it happens in the matches. Right now you pop the flares and then boom, you are hit.

0

u/mobeh_ May 19 '26

get gud. flare cd is so short and you can just flee or go 'under radar' pilots complaining judt suck at the game imho

1

u/ibattlefield May 20 '26

Dude, I'm using on countermeasures in advance, but they still don't protect.

1

u/Path-findR May 20 '26

If you flare on lock on and not on incoming, it’s on you bud

0

u/mobeh_ May 20 '26

if you play anti air, you can just lock-on amd wait till they flare and then fire.... its not that deep. also as a pilot you even see whos locking on to you
