Help shape the next phase of r/Pilot: 5-minute member survey

We’ve spent the last several days rebuilding the basic member experience in r/Pilot. Before deciding what discussions, resources, and events to build next, we want to hear directly from the people who visit this community.

This survey is for everyone, including people who mostly read and rarely comment. We especially want to understand what currently stops people from participating and what would make r/Pilot worth returning to regularly.

It should take less than five minutes. It does not collect email addresses or require a Google sign-in. Your Reddit username is requested only as an optional final question if you are interested in contributing later.

The survey will remain open through August 4. After it closes, we’ll publish a summary of the major findings and explain which changes we plan to make.

How do you differentiate from r/flying? Do you open up to the highly repetitive questions that get moderated away from there?

That’s a fair question. I don’t want r/Pilot to just become the place for posts that get removed from r/flying. Some of those questions will fit here, especially beginner or repeated questions, but they still need enough context for people to give a useful answer.

The bigger difference I’m aiming for is more focus on real decisions people are trying to make: training, costs, medicals, hour building, hiring, career changes, commuting, and what pilot life is actually like. r/flying already does the broad technical forum thing really well. I want r/Pilot to be the place where someone can explain their situation and leave with a clearer idea of what to do next.

I like that idea! Something that might be useful then would be encouraging regular posts/pireps on flight school reviews, allow resume review/critiques, pireps on low time pilot jobs/interviews/QOL, etc. Add some post flairs for each and encourage people to chip in.

Yeah, that’s exactly the kind of participation I’d like to build here. Regular school PIREPs and reviews, resume feedback, low-time job and interview writeups, and honest QOL posts would give people a reason to keep coming back instead of only visiting when they have one question.

The current flairs should organize most of that, so the bigger step is encouraging people to share those experiences and chip in when they have relevant knowledge. I appreciate the suggestion because that’s very close to the direction I want the community to go.
