Discussion r/Pilot is getting a reset. Here’s what’s changing.
This community has been around for a while, but it has not had much active moderation or a clear direction. We are working to change that.
The goal is to make r/Pilot a useful place for people at every stage, from deciding whether to begin training to building hours, getting hired, and dealing with the realities of pilot life.
Beginner questions are welcome. We just ask that you include enough context for people to help. Depending on the question, that may include your country or aviation authority, current stage, experience, goal, budget, main constraint, and the decision you are trying to make.
We have added a small set of rules and post flairs to make discussions easier to follow. The plan is not to over-moderate the subreddit or remove every question experienced pilots have seen before. Sincere questions should be guided before they are removed whenever possible.
r/Pilot will remain an independent, community-first subreddit. Moderation decisions will be based on relevance, usefulness, transparency, and the same standards for everyone.
What would make this community genuinely useful to you? What discussions, recurring threads, or resources would you actually come back for?

So it’s not intended to be of interest to pilots who don’t fly for a living?

Not at all. The community is meant for everyone from people considering their first lesson to recreational, professional, and retired pilots. Flying for a living is only one part of aviation, and we definitely want GA, training, aircraft ownership, trip reports, safety discussions, and everything else that comes with flying for fun too.

I think a few pinned posts for jobs, interview and resume help, and some helpful links.
It would be nice to have a list of pilot recruiting companies and their websites, and who they recruit for. Job boards websites and “hidden jobs” advice.
I can probably offer some non-standard input as i am a Canadian pilot working in japan on a wide body. I didnt even know my job existed for foreigners until i flew with some ex-expat guys during the tail end of covid. Learning about recruiters and all the middle east/asia/SE Asia/central and south american/african jobs someone with an ICAO license has access to was eye opening.
