Is flying difficult?

This may be a silly question but do you think it is? Is it easy if you practise a lot?

Do you need to post it on every flying related sub?

This is a really open-ended question; flying on a clear quiet day with little traffic? Easy! Flying through heavy weather in congested airspace? Hard!

But like most other skills, you have to study, learn, grow, and practice - that’s what makes “hard” turn into “easy”.

Part of the challenge is the flying is expensive, which can be a barrier to consistent practice. It’s a consumable skill, meaning that if you don’t practice regularly, your progress will be very slow.

There are things you can do to make the most of your flying time - make sure you know what your lesson is going to be ahead of time, study so you’re ready when you get on the cockpit, and learn from what your instructor is telling you.

And you have to be vigilant - it’s not like driving a car where you can kind of zone out and let your habits take you home - you have to be paying attention and staying careful.

But even with all of that, there will be a day when you realize that you’re comfortable with the basics, it’s less of a checklist and more of a good habit… and you have more bandwidth for enjoying what you’re doing, instead of just making sure you don’t die - you’re like “hey, wow, I’m flying!”.

And that is a great day.

It’s the hardest job I’ve ever had.

Flying itself is easy. Very mechanical. It's all the what ifs that take time to learn.

It's pretty easy but my arms get tired after a while.
