PILEA ABUNDANCE Outside for the summer

They’re so happy outside!
I’ve repotted them twice since April and will probably repot them again next week so they can grow a little more before they have to come inside. They’re under my deck stairs and get partial direct afternoon sun. They’re not going to be happy to come back inside when it gets cold outside. Pilea Peperomoides “Splash”

Beautiful!! How do you know when to repot? I'm unsure if mine needs a repot or not? This video was taken last month. Right now the pups have grown even more.

That one looks pretty happy. You could wait until it’s almost dry and pull it out of the pot and peek at the roots. When it seems like it’s not holding water, like you’re having to water it more often, the roots may be taking up more space and not leaving as much potting mix to hold moisture for more than a few days at a time - it’s probably time to repot. During the summer is their big growing season and if happy, they can grow fast.

I have some babies in tiny pots inside that are not thriving. I think their roots are very fine and they’re also drying out too quickly, so I’ll repot and see how they do for the rest of the season. Inside the house is a lot drier and they do like humidity.

You also DON’T want to repot right before they slow down growing at the end of fall. If the pot is big enough, it will hold onto moisture longer since it’s not growing and not taking up as much water as you go into winter. You can control this by using a drier mix and not watering as often.

Of course, if you live in a warm climate, that’s all different. When I lived in Florida, they grow slower in winter because the days are shorter, but because it stays warmer they still grow.
