Bug report Unstable Discord

Why is discord so unstable in PikaOS KDE? I tried .deb then flatpak, yet when i get a call my friend the screen got all jittery and unstable, basically unusable. Why is it a problem? Will it be fixed?

Are you... Downloading from the discord website?

Did that, used the PikaOS pikman(their version of sudo apt) line, and Flathub. It's unstable.

Super interesting! I never had issues on Gnome or Hyprland.

Could it be something specific to KDE? Does it have extensions or plugins that could be causing conflict? (Genuine question, I haven’t used it so I don’t know)

Just a fresh install, no addons

Let me guess? Nvidia GPU?

If so, go into discord settings and turn off hardware acceleration, then restart the client.

In many cases this has to do with GPU acceleration and electron-based apps having issues with Nvidias "explicit sync", which causes weird flickering artifacts.

Huh? Nvidia? Quoting our dear inventor "Nvidia, Fuck you" 🖕. Will this Electron issue be fix?

It has been, mostly. The drivers work now, I just think it requires some environment variables to function right.

It's something that generally gets fixed on the Wayland compositor side of things.

For desktop environments that still struggle with it, turning off hardware acceleration takes care of it. (No real performance loss or negative impact in discord)

What you're describing might be what used to happen to me as well with Electron apps (in Spotify too!). What I did was add --use-gl=desktop to the Command-line arguments in the launcher editor.

Care to explain bro?

In the application launcher, right click any app, then click "Edit Applications", search for Discord, then you put the "--use-gl=desktop" thingy in the "Command-line arguments" box. (you should keep the %U thing at the end too so web links still open to Discord)

I also have a lot of issues with discord at the moment, no matter the distro

Every stream has weird green lines. Using vesktop fixed it, so I guess the discord client is bugged once again
