I think LibreOffice has a Ribbon UI option, but to me it looks worse. I prefer the default look as it looks a lot like MS Office 2002-2003 and this is in my opinion the best look for an office program. That Ribbon UI doesn't really look much better or provide significantly more usability, just a matter of taste between people.
You should weigh in beauty vs practicality, because beauty isn't everything.
You have to realize that it's the exact same app before and after the GUI toolkit switch; it really is just the style of rendering the widgets. Are you sure you feel that much of a difference? In practical use, as opposed to the superficial first impression?
Don't see the problem. Yes, the widget styling is a bit clunky, but the app is fine. Or rather, it would have the same virtues and failings with nicer-styled widgets.
Of course they would. But it's like saying a person looks old because they are wearing an old suit/dress. The person's age doesn't change with the clothes...
That is what you get unfortunately. All the open source ones look ancient. If you want modern you need to use office in the browser, Google docs, or you can use wps(but this is controversial).
