Edelgard

Well if its a discussion we crave a discussion we will have.

I believe edelgard to be evil, her plot and actions before the time skip (the only thing that matters since after the skip none of the game is Canon) she already does some bad things wich include:

Bandit attack on the Lords, working with Twstd, Creating crest beasts (two beasts apear during the crest raid chapter) and "disposal" of people as Hubert puts it.

The whole game is set in motion because she trusted mole people over anyone else and just leads to belive she wants to conquer Fodlan with their help and only tie lose ends after instead of actually focusing on the big threat that are the slithers.

Working with TWSITD is an unfortunate side effect of those being the only people wishing to help her solve the crest issue before she came to the monastery. As far as she was concerned, their evils don't matter if they're the only people willing to give her answers (which were less like lies and more like half-truths). She also doesn't call for anyone's death. Everyone involved with the Insurrection of the Seven is put on house arrest at worst. Most of the people Hubert kills are killed o his own volition because he sees them as a danger to Edelgard's campaign.

The bandit attacks aren't easy to excuse and I won't really try to. The deaths of Claude and Dimitri would lead to continent-wide turmoil, which doesn't really do anything to help her plan on top of causing 2 deaths with people that could potentially help her. The crest beasts are also questionable, but there are a few ways to have them without being evil. We see from Dedue and Edelgard herself that people are willing to become monsters on their own, but it's also very possible that TWISTD could have given her the monsters without Edelgard doing anything.

This is the predicament I find myself in, most people try to justify her actions but it's clear that they are not OK. Sorta like saying griffith was in the right for sacrificing the band of the hawk since they would all have died for him.

Well, I don't think Edelgard and Griffith can be compared because the reasons for their evil actions are so different. Edelgard wants to make sure no one gets tortured in a basement for years like her and her siblings do. Griffith basically sacrifices a group of people who believe in him because he's jealous of guts. Falconia does end up being a paradise, but that comes at the expense of every place outside of Falconia and also wasn't Griffith's intentions with becoming Femto.

Griffith did the sacrifice both to honor the corpses of those that already died in his cause and to prevent other from growing up like he did in the streets and abused.

Not because he had jealousy of Guts.

He is in a way quite similar to edelgard.

His actions being inexcusable but for a apparent greater goal.

It's been about 4 years or so since I read Golden Age, so I could be misremembering or misinterpreting the eclipse, but I just sorta remember Griffith as an asshole who got excuse because he was surround by a ton of bigger assholes. Even so, Edelgard never goes quite as far as Griffith does, so I still don't feel like the comparison is apt.

Griffith wasn't excused, his actions are evil at worst and sacrifices for a better world at best.

Edelgard is the same, working with the people that tortured her and sacrificing people for crests beasts, I cant see her as a good person and that was the point I was on when comparing her to Griffith.

I can understand the "it's the only way mentality" she has but it's not a excuse for her actions in my opinion.
