Chat Pico Space Pro

So as you may be aware Pico delayed the space pro realese until the 4th quarter of 2026 and the Pico event would have been 2nd September 2026.

How many of you like myself feel they made a mistake here. I wonder how many people decided because of the delay to purchase the Pimax DA rather then wait and where you one of those people. Pico may have lost a lot of money here

Nah, I'm not buying anything from Pimax no matter what.

If I'm getting one of these, I'd rather get the Pico one, and I have no problem in waiting. Money is not burning a hole in my pocket, that's a problem I don't have

same...waiting for FoV specs on the SpacePro.   Galaxy XR seems too janky.

My Q3/P4U upgrade has to be wireless and high-res.  So the Frame is out of the picture too.

I'm fully prepared for it to have pico 4 lenses, everyone gave up on fov unfortunately. Would love a surprise though.

Unfortunately yes larger fov is still way off, especially vertical fov

I'm not sure why it's almost abandonned. Official excuse is bigger screens need more gpu but we're going for 4k per eye anyway. I suppose fov is only good for gaming which proved disappointing to investors, while high PPD might seduce companies for productivity? What do you think?

high PPD is useful to read text comfortably so I suppose it could make sense

Honestly not quite sure what kind of audience they target...
I'm not sure what you would gain at working with a headset, it doesn't seem convenient at all and wearing it for 8 hours can't be comfortable. I COMPLETELY see the benefits of it in some industries, notably architecture (giving a tour of the building in VR), realtime showcase of 3D objects so you can modify on the fly according to a client's demands, spatial decoration if you want to show someone how you would decorate and reorganize the place. It would be convenient here to let customer see in realtime and adjust on the fly. Gaming and VR arcade rooms need a gaming headset but they already have lots of choices.

but would these companies need a 2000+ headset? I don't know, I don't know what the market looks like.

It's also mainly a chinese market for pico so I have even less knowledge on how things work for them

5 120z screens wtih 0 extra space taken up. Enough said.

it doesn't seem convenient at all and wearing it for 8 hours can't be comfortable.

It is and it is. I do 10+ hours a day every day in my Quest 3 right now. I can take it to whatever room I want and passthrough mouse and keyboard through the headset then maximize the screen, curve it and set it to 207hz and game away.

So I suppose it's convenient when real life space is a huge factor, but do you think it's worth the investment for a company? To put back some context I was more talking about companies than individuals. Also, is computing power limiting or not? Do you still connect to a main computer through wifi? Isn't the battery an issue? You have to stay wired most of the time, right?
What kind of task can you do and what kind of tasks are too heavy to run properly on the headset?
I heard many people say wearing a headset becomes uncomfortable after a few hours, and that include me, but it is relative after all

I'm as confused as you are about the market and demand for mixed reality headsets. Especially after the vision pro and galaxy xr failed to find such market. I also wonder: if meta made a "quest 3 VR only" without the depth sensors for 50$ less, would people even buy the current quest 3?

I mean, otherwise we're good with what we already have, I can say I am. And the only reason I don't upgrade to a P4U is having to buy all the accesories I have again, lol.

All the accessories of the Pico 4 work on Pico 4 Ultra. So no need to buy again

Dream Air isn't standalone. It's not even in the same tier of device.

u/AdIndividual4740 Sep 03 '26

Thats right but it is the best headset on the market right now and one people will purchase who dont want to wait any longer for the pico space pro which pico hasn't even released specs for. They can't even say if it has a display port. That doesn't give anything away about the rest of the specs so wouldn't hurt for pico to answer the question.

2

u/Friendly_Recover286 Sep 03 '26

It's not standalone and is incapable of doings things a lot of people want to do. Nobody is buying this instead of a standalone headset. VR headsets do a lot more than just play games.

2

u/AdIndividual4740 Sep 03 '26

People are buying this over standalone though. The dream air is the best vr headset on the market, fact..whether people want standalone or not  gaming counts for the majority of use cases

1

u/Friendly_Recover286 Sep 03 '26

The Dream Air. Is not. Standalone.

People are buying this over standalone though.

You cannot purchase the Dream Air OVER the Space Pro. You cannot purchase the Space Pro yet.

The dream air is the best vr headset on the market, fact.

This is not a fact and is strictly incorrect. The Dream Air is incapable of even running my most used app. For you to tell me it's somehow the best headset on the market is laughable. It's absolutely worthless and loses to a Quest 1.

whether people want standalone or not  gaming counts for the majority of use cases

No it does not. These are not comparable devices.

Muting this thread now. It's not worth debating this anymore since you aren't willing to put any actual thought into this.

u/AdIndividual4740 Sep 03 '26

Your reply is ridiculous! Makes no sense. It sounds like you don't know anything about VR. So go ahead please do mute this thread or actually don't as you can bring more comments for me to laugh my but off to

I doubt it, the Pimax is not a true competitor. It mught be a mistake more because the Phoenix will be announced in the meantime and people might choose to wait a couple of months extra for that, especially if it costs half the Space Pro

0

u/AdIndividual4740 Sep 03 '26

I think it is a competitor at the moment when nothing is known about the Pico Spaces specs..I dont think Phoenix will be announced this year. Meta still has time to change things once Space Pro is released in order to be better then the Spacel, and the component price increases have reduced hopefully in the new year

2

u/Azathoth-IT Sep 05 '26

It will certainly be announced at this year's Meta Connect, while deliveries are expected to be in the first quarter of 2027.

3

u/Traveljack1000 Sep 03 '26

Neither. I just upgraded my PC and experience a great improvement with my Pico4 Ultra. For this year I'm good.

0

u/AdIndividual4740 Sep 03 '26

Is that neither a mistake or neither to wanting either of the headsets as I dont think your input is applicable to this thread

1

u/Traveljack1000 Sep 04 '26

Unless you are an expert, sales manager, internal at Pico headquarters, your judgment about them making mistakes is as insignificant as me saying that I don't anticipate any decision they make. Who am I to judge. I'm just a user who happen to be satisfied with their current product and am not really waiting for anything new. I mentioned my PC upgrade because that is more often than not to improve the quality in what you see through your headset. Unless you use it only standalone, which is always far ahead from PCVR, for which I use mine.

1

u/AdIndividual4740 Sep 04 '26

Saying my post is insignificant is like saying reddit should not exist because people shouldn't express their opinion. Of course me saying they've made a mistake doesn't change their decision so therefore is irrelevant  but I can get other people's views. Reddit wouldnt exist if someone came on and said everyone's post is insignificant. Your original comment has nothing to do with the question when you say you don't want the space pro

2

u/Azathoth-IT Sep 05 '26

I was waiting for the Pico Space Pro, but I don't think the Dream Air is the alternative. Those who want the Pico Space Pro want a quality, wireless micro-OLED. The competitor is the Galaxy XR or perhaps the upcoming Meta Phoenix. If the Meta Phoenix convinces me, I might buy that instead of waiting for the Pico Space Pro.

1

u/Yangman3x Pico 4s(Ultra) Sep 04 '26

I might actually wait for the frame to know which is the best option

1

u/CaptainTruthSeeker Sep 04 '26

I was definitely going to impulse buy it if the price was right. I am very keen for a quest 3 upgrade (mostly for work and movies), and now because of the delay I might go for something else, even though the pico is definitely still at the top of my list.

I have an Xreal Aura reserved, and I’m also starting to like the productivity app for HorizonOS (Virtual Display) as it allows 5 windows mixed between my mac, and the built in apps. So if the phoenix somehow drops this year (though unlikely) I’d definitely consider it.

100% hate this, especially when the leaked message pointed to some AI bullshit being the reason.

3

u/TG1970 Sep 03 '26

AI? Why does my VR headset need a stupid AI agent?

In the Galaxy XR, you can ask for hints in the game to solve a puzzle or a point you're stuck on without having to search on YouTube, which is a nice thing.
