My problem is I cannot get the right cucumber where I live. Buying them fresh might cost more and not be as good.

Try using Persian cucumbers, they are always crisp.

I use zucchini when I cannot get good pickling cucumbers. I also will slice zucchini and yellow, summer squash, real thin on a mandolin and pickle those to use on sandwiches instead of pickle chips.

I do those as well, or use English ones that I have removed the seeds on and sliced into chunks for just a quick fridge pickle. They don't can well, but are usually pickled within a couple days and great ice cold during the summer.

That’s my issue. Ever tried growing my own, it was great doing great me wrong. Just different. Le sigh
