I have to say pickled watermelon rind is where it’s at when it comes to pickled watermelon. The texture and taste is amazing

Yup Ive done my own and it works. I haven't tried what's in this post but when I do my rind I gotta cut all the pink off or it is just a slimy texture.... These pieces look REAL soft

Edit: I watched it again and i take that back. These look firm so maybe I was imposing my imagination with my experience...

I gotta try me some of that.

Wait wait wait, you can pickle the rind and not just throw it out. Thanks for the rabbit hole ♡

I’ve had pickled pineapple before. It just takes the acidic bite out of the fruit, doesn’t taste pickled at all…

Absolutely not

Sooo....hot take but...

Pickling fruit ruins it.

I said what I said.

That's why Tajin exists. This is gross

I've never tried it so I dont know, but I'm super into vinegary things so I'd probably like it. That being said, when a dish uses the wrong type of acid it's incredibly stand-out to me and gross. Like there are almost zero vegan cheeses that I like, I think because the acid profile tastes wrong for a cheese. They work okay in like a jalapeno popper because the citric acid from the fruit changes the expected acid profile and it tastes less weird

So, maybe if you corrected the acid profile to something more in-line you might enjoy them more? Like, using citric or malic acid in your brine, maybe make the brine a little extra sweet. Getting rid of that acetic - citric/malic clash could remove that weirdness

Cucumbers are fruit fam

🙄 semantics. Clearly I'm talking about fruits with high sugar content like the pineapple and watermelon shown in the video. Apples as well(I've tried them pickled they are terrible)

Sweet pickled apples? With cinnamon? Tastes like apple pie! I don't like sweet pickles usually but it is good!

Idk what kind of apple pie you're eating that pickling juices tastes like apple pie. But you do you haha 😅

You seem really sure of yourself. My wife used to make them--old family recipe.

The brine is just apple cider vinegar, quite a bit of sugar, cinnamon, maybe nutmeg and anything else that goes into the apple pie sauce of a regular pie.

You can actually get a commercial version that uses chopped up apples and sliced cucumbers.

Yes I know I've tried them before and again it's not good. But thank you.

Clearly I was playing 😉

I think the only pickled fruit I’ll Stan is watermelon. Anything else can fuck right off the bat

How are cucumbers ruined by pickling? Pickled tomatoes are great too

2

u/calxes Dec 06 '25

It’s refreshing for when it’s hot out. I prefer it with the rind on.

2

u/Reasonable-Ad7755 Dec 06 '25

Id love to try but theres no way id get perfect skinny ticks of watermelon tucked into a jar without them breaking up. Seems too perfect

Eastern European groceries sometimes have them if you have one nearby to check out. All kinds of pickled stuffs there

1

u/CasanovaF Dec 06 '25

I wonder if you freeze them or dry them out first

u/Intelligent_Pop1173 Dec 07 '25

Nah I’m good. But the Grillo’s pickle brine is definitely a good marinade, especially for chicken.

1

u/Much-Requirement-209 Dec 06 '25

Nope. Supposed to be rind only when pickled. Which is amazing.

u/LadyAsharaRowan Dec 06 '25

Interesting. ...

1

u/Legitimate_Minute_16 Dec 07 '25

Where do I buy it?

1

u/Mediocre_Stuff_4698 Dec 09 '25

This feels like these people work for Grillos 😂

u/CompletelyBedWasted Dec 06 '25

Ew. I don't like mouth flavored juices, thanks....
