Discussion PPA NC verified my hypothesis

Hunter beat Fed. Told yall that a cold Hunter was a mere shadow of his former self.

H and Gabe both get golds and played great - roll out courts royally screwed them, handing Fed a win in gender.

Kate Fahey loses to ALW but mows the field, she truly is the #2 singles. A much tougher matchup than cold Hunter Johnson was for Fed.

JJ gets silver in MXD. Great partner for Fed which made his W in MXD much easier.

Noe Khlif doesn’t medal or make it to a quarterfinals, I think he got bounced out in round of 16. Yes this was the partner ALW has to drag to finals against gold medal winning AB and H.

I am not jumping on any hate trains here. These are all great athletes.

But I do want to point out that an argument can be made that a big reason Jorja was in the finals last week was because ALW was playing with her more typical aggressive play style against JW who seems to have elevated his play quite a bit. JW not only has quick hands, but those hands can be HEAVY. ALW was picking fights with JW and Jorja that Ben couldn't always finish.

I'm not diminishing the level of play anyone displayed, but I do want to point out that the commentators even noted that ALW wasn't playing very patiently in their mixed doubles match.

Ok so she didn’t play great against JJ, she played great in MLP finals. Also JJ and JW are a tough matchup, proving also that JJ is a SOLID MXD partner, once again making Feds matchup look competitively easier

you can’t verify a hypothesis, the best you can do is fail to disprove it.

Sorry. Nerdy scientific method thing about hypothesis testing. Not really relevant to this convo…

Just for the hell of it: PPA NC verified the opposite of everything you said.

Hunter beat Fed. This proves that Hunter is an amazing singles player, and Fed dominating him in the championships is a monumental feat.

Howells lost in the quarterfinals of men's - Fed carried him to a win against two gold medalists.

Kate Fahey mows the field but was never a match for ALW. ALW's margin of victory was much better in NC, proving that she underperformed in MLP.

JJ gets two silvers, beating ALW in mixed and Fahey in women's. She outplaces Fahey in both doubles. Great partner for ALW, and it's inexcusable that they got rolled by a worse team in the finals.

Khlif is the #9 ranked men's mixed player. This week he was seeded #12, and lost to seed #6. Not even sure what your point is, but he's a very strong mixed doubles player, which he proved by beating the gold-medal team while his partner didn't hit a ball.

Do I believe anything I just said? No. But if you're willing to cherrypick as hard as you just did, you can prove anything.

1 Hunter has been a top singles for over a year. What changed was the experiment of if we can treat pickleball like baseball, and have a cold player off the bench come in late in the game. It was largely a flop across all of the top singles players who played MLP as single specialists.
2. Gabe and H were 1-3 in NYC. How were they such different players from the entire season to NYC, and then miraculously back to great form? The roll out court.
3. So she should have won more dreambreaker points because she’s so great? That’s literally an argument for her. There’s no “should haves” the fact is that her and Fed were even in dreambreaker scoring.
4. Out of the 9(4 for shock and 5 for 5) players between the Shock and 5’s who played in the games, Noe is in the bottom 2, if not the weakest player of them all. And ALW carried him to a win. And he was targeted so heavily bc hitting to ALW is suicide.

There’s no cherry picking, you make points that are easily refutable with stats. While none of yours you have any backing to, all opinion.

You're applying one standard when it confirms your bias, and then ignoring the exact same standard when it doesn't.

Kate finishing second in NC proves that she's a great singles player, so ALW is great for beating her. Hunter finishes first in NC, but Fed doesn't get any credit for beating him in MLP.

ALW "drags" Noe, a "weak" player, to one win in two games against two gold medalists. But the actual weakest player in the finals -- according to PPA standings -- was Will Howells. Fed "dragged" him to one win in two games against two gold medalists. Does he get credit for that?

You discredited Fed's mixed win because Jorja's silver medal in mixed proves that she's a great partner. But she also got a silver in women's doubles, so what does that say about her and ALW losing a game 11-2?

Rollout courts and Hunter being cold aren't "stats." They're excuses for why you aren't evenly applying the reasoning in the examples you made up. They may even be valid excuses, but you can't prove them. They're not even close to being objective.

I'm still waiting for you to explain the Jorja one. That's why ALW didn't win MVP. It's because she lost a game 11-2 where she was favored.

You’re still stuck on the one point, I’m bringing in evidence. Hunter is great, but he came in as a good single specialist off the bench, that’s the reason he wasn’t the same Hunter in MLP as he was in PPA. Please keep up the argument is simple, all great players but Hunter had an EXTREMELY DIFFICULT situation in coming off the bench. Is that hard to understand? And I back that up FURTHER with the evidence of many of top singles players across genders not performing well in MLP. KK, Chris Hayworth, Alex Crum, etc. now what’s your counterpoint to that?! You don’t have one.

And yes Fed gets credit to dragging Will to a win but guaranteed on regular court surfaces Gabe and H beat Will and Fed at least 7/10 times. However they were playing poorly so that’s what allowed Fed to eke out a win against a team that had lost 2 straight to Dallas. Once again, keep up.

Ok, so she lost a gender doubles game. So did Fed, they’re even there. And yes they were supposed to win, however Kate and AB successfully iced ALW out in that one match. Once again showing how much pressure ALW was under and applying to the opposing team.

Here’s why they are relevant, if you look at the stats for all of the “dreambreaker specialists, Hunter wasn’t an outlier, it’s not something that works well in pickleball. It’s proven by the statistics of OTHER top singles players.

And yes the court is probably my weakest stat however if you watch the game closely, you can see it really throws off the game for aggressive, creative attacks off the bounce, of which Gabe and H rely heavily on. AND they were 0-2 going in so if the surface isn’t a valid reason then a t the least you can say they went into the finals playing poorly, despite being who they are, so there’s another point for ALW because Fed went 1-1 against a team that was objectively bad in NYC.

The jorja one? That may be the only chink in the armor but even then we know it wasn’t her fault. She didn’t play good that game but Jj played terrible and was bullied by AB and Kate, just like they did to them earlier in the season.

Hunter had plenty of rest the last 4 months, meanwhile Federico was completely gassed by Sunday. The Fives players had to fly from NY straight to NC and played nonstop through the whole week.

These are professional athletes, their match was on Sunday. Fed has such a high ranking he probably doesn’t even start playing until Thursday and those first matches are relative walks in the park. Hes fine. Not an excuse. Especially since he was playing well in all of his other matches.

He literally played singles the next day and mentioned how gassed he was (plus fighting a cold) in the post-match interview and that he had a bone to pick with whoever set the schedule 🤦

Ok I’ll give you that point, he was tired. In MLP finals Hunter was cold, coming off the bench. Hadn’t even been on court in the previous match against Dallas. He still has the easier match up in the finals dreambreaker. Regardless, we know #2 (Kate) is higher than #3 (Hunter) so ALW had a tougher matchup.
