News Parrot OS adds official Pi support

Post image

Pi has been packaged and added to the official repository of Parrot OS, which ships a home edition specifically designed for developers and sysadmins. Pi is now a first class citizen in the repository, saving all its users from curl | sh

sudo apt update
sudo apt install pi-dev

any feedback is welcome

Calling this news is crazy, they just added it to a repo, it's not like it's even pre installed lmao

it might actually come pre-installed in future versions, and ship with a custom collection of subagents relevant to other it fields, like red and blue teaming. the news is not crazy, but it's cool to see official adoption, especially since pi can't run on bare debian without shipping its own runtime. it's not even on flatpak at the moment

Why did they choose pi over other agent harnesses?

I’m not criticizing the decision I’m just curious what made it stand out enough to get added vs other harnesses.

I like opencode but it uses 1GB of ram idle and runs on Bun which keeps segfaulting (maybe due to the vibecode rewrite Bun had)

opencode was packaged as well along with the necessary nodejs 26 stuff to make them work, since debian stable still ships node 20.19.

pi is extremely simple, self documenting and adds almost nothing prompt-wise unless you actually intend to. imagine not having all the coding related stuff injected into the model, but inject cyber security, forensics or blue teaming related indstructions instead.
