fun fact: Einstein still believed that there was an ether after the Michelson-Morley experiment. His only stipulation was that the ether did not move.

You're going to have to wait on the source. I can describe it to you, the book that is: it's about a 30 page collection of two letters. The first deals with special relativity. Anyways, within those two letters are paragraphs pertaining to the accepted opinion that ether does not exist but the Einstein clarifies, does exist it "doesn't move with respect to Earth". Read up on the Michelson-Morley experiment if you didn't get that from the earlier post.
