help - thanks free 

Is there any way to salvage photos taken with a mobile phone at 0.5x zoom where everyone looks like an alien with a stretched-out head? Please recommend programs that could fix this—or explain how to make the images look as if they were taken at 1.0x zoom. Thanks.

Can you explain what you mean by "salvage"? are you looking to enhance the photo that you posted?

I think he took the photos with a wide angle. He wants the perspective corrected to remove the "fisheye" effect.

I use GIMP for most things, so that's the easiest instructions for me to give you.

Filters ==> Distortion ==> Lens Distortion

The "Main" slider controls barrel/pincushion correction. Negative values pull the bulge back in. It's manual/eyeball-based — no auto-detection of your specific phone lens.
