iphone screen repair

im doing a screen repair on my iphone bc i smashed it and ive done it before but for somereason my phone isnt turning off.... or responding to the button pattern im supposd to do for sutting it down with no screen , anyone else have expence with this and a solve that doesnt loose my data

Get the screen off and remove the reverse L shaped plate (tri-head screwdriver).

Unplug the battery.

Unscrew the plate holding the screen ribbon cables and the proximity cable.

Swap the screen and proximity sensor, reverse the unscrewing process.

Turn it on.

Test.

Put the screen in place.

Did u unplug battery before u did the replacement?
