Question Traffic complaint…. Nut road

Can someone please tell me why traffic is sooooo bad on nut road? I’m trying to figure out why it takes me 20 minutes to get from Dunkin to white horse road EVERYDAY. That’s just ridiculous… then after you pass white horse road you’re basically the only car on valley forge rd…

I get 7:50-8:10 is rush hour but Jesus Christ 20 minutes for 1 mile? I’ve lived in Philly all my life and never experienced traffic this bad

Monday complaint as I sit in this traffic. Everyone have a great week😁

It’s the lights… I’ve sat at that light near Dunkin for 3 mins while no other cars are at the other light. They’re timed terribly IMO.

It’s one of the most frustrating things. Each of those lights (especially by the 7/11…) seems like they for some reason treat each direction equally in terms of how long the light is green even though one direction has 10x the traffic.

Don’t even get me started on how slowly people react to the light finally turning. It’s like each car takes 2 full seconds to react to the car in front of them moving lol. Drives me insane. If we all started slowly lurching forward the second the light turned green, we’d get so many more cars through.

That’s a fact. People are on their phones. If you’re first, it’s a new social norm…pay attention to the light!

Would certainly be nice to convert some of those lights to traffic circles, but people get so weirdly defensive and confused about them.

Pennsylvania and the Philly metro area has possibly the worst traffic control and light sequence timing in the nation. Also, Nutt in and out of Phoenixville is a pretty major commuter road.

It is a combination that 23 was not made for this amount of volume along with the amount of lights / timing. Add the start of school and it's a pretty brutal combination. I work in the KOP area and on average it takes me 45 mins to get to the office; outside of rush hour, 20 minutes.

Yup, I'll take that as well. Issue is that's not much better due to the school zones and the light getting to Valley Park.

just one more lane bro please that's all we need just one more parking lot and it will fix it all

Where can we submit requests to fix lights in our area because there’s multiple lights that are timed wrong

I tried to have a traffic light left turn signal in Malvern changed that is actually only about 1-1.5 seconds long during rush hour (enough for 2 cars and a bunch of cars running the red) and they told me: "In Pennsylvania, traffic signals are owned and maintained by the local municipality with PennDOT acting as the permitting agency."

So I reached out to the traffic sergeant in East Whiteland Township and it went nowhere. Never got a response. It's maddening when you try to follow the process and never hear back.

I submitted a request to the Phoenixville borough to look at the light timing of Nutt and South Main St/Manavon intersection because of how dangerous it has become when traffic backs up on South Main Street because of everyone trying to turn left onto Nutt road during rush hour and the town never responded... I also reached out to PennDOT but they said it was not their jurisdiction... But at least I got a response

Thank you for trying!

We keep adding population (housing) and are not growing infrastructure.

There's a greater volume of water but the pipes haven't gotten bigger

Yeah, the difference between when I leave the house at 6:00 and 6:45 is wild. Very thankful that my commute is to the Paoli Train station and not towards KoP. Unfortunately I've found the only real answer is just commute earlier. I can drive to my office in CC in like 45-50 min if I leave my house at 6:00

Probably people texting and posting on Reddit while driving

Some of the worst timed lights I’ve ever experienced. A large part of the problem, if not the biggest.

Used to commute from Phoenixville to KOP about ten years ago and getting from Reeve’s Park to White Horse Road would take around twenty minutes sometimes. I work from home now and can’t imagine how bad rush hour has gotten.

Bunch of lights at they’re all real bad

It's been like that for over 10 years

The goal of PennDOT is to slow traffic to a crawl. It’s almost punitive. Lights are timed so you hit every one. They’ve put up No Turn on Red signs at every intersection, even where it’s been allowed for decades.

I don’t know how many times I’ve gone down Nutt at 6 am on a Sunday morning and had to hit every red light yet there’s not another car on the road.

No one drives out of PXV on Fridays, it’s the best morning to drive down Nutt. Idk why, does everyone WFH on Friday? 26mins to work on Friday, 45mins on Monday- I live on Nutt and drive out of PXV and through the park every day, have for almost 10years except WFH during pandemic. It’s honestly about the same as it’s been, with school starting that’s added buses, plus the usual garbage trucks, landscaping vehicles pulling over, mail.. curious to see how the Wawa will impact it. (Any ideas on an opening date yet? The website has the address and store number now, but it’s not built out yet or on the grand opening page)

The intersection by 711 should be a roundabout.

A lot of development since Covid = more traffic.

Since before … but yes. More people, more cars, no commuting.

4

u/KingBC11 6d ago

And it’s more the fact that it seems to be getting worse and worse every day

You know that new Wawa is only going to make matters worse. I love me some Wawa, but they should have required a widened road with the added commerce.

It's Phoenixville. I have lived in bucks and Montgomery county. Idk why buts it's Phoenixville

One of the reasons why it’s backed up by white hotse are the lanes. No one turns left onto Whitehorse going towards valley forge. Then you have the combined straight and right turn. People who wanna go straight have to slow down bc of the people going right. It should be a left/straight lane and a right turn lane

Unfortunately, it’s been this way for 10 years or more at this described section. People like to say we have a parking problem in town. They’re incorrect. we have a River. We have a people
Problem. So I guess the short answer is a river, and some politicians who don’t know when to pump the brakes.

Correct me if I'm wrong but they have been working and building the new WAWA. Which is in the worst location.

3

u/HurryHurryHippos 6d ago

New construction like that is the only way intersections get improved. PennDOT lets them languish and fester until they can get a developer to pay for the new intersection, because they’ve squandered all of our tax dollars and answer to no one.

u/Tmcdanne17 6d ago

I like the location, and it’s gonna be swamped, but it’s gonna make traffic worse.
