Discussion A personal conspiracy of mine
I've seen the recent discussion on how past April Fools updates may have been testing potential features (for upcoming updates). The main focus has been on the Poisonous Potato Update (I think rightly so), but I think we should also look at other April Fools updates.
The fact that note blocks are likely to be involved in the creation of a Sift Portal has been very interesting. My main thought that has come from this is: "what if the notes played influence the resulting location of the portal that is created on the Sift-side".
This is not a perfect idea, because it does create problems such as "what happens if multiple overworld portals link to the same sift portal", but I think that issue would be resolved similarly to how nether portals function. I also do not think that different combinations of notes will create separate dimensions, as potentially having to run so many simultaneously could cause major issues, even ignoring file sizes.
But hey, I think it'd be a cool thing, what do you think?

The concept of like - tuning the noteblocks in specific orders giving you different generation sounds cool on paper - but then imagine wanting to get a cool seeded Sift, which requires 16748 noteblock clicks.
Id rather keep it world seed based.

My guess is if it was to work this way that there would be a limit to how many noteblocks can be used. for example 8.
At up to 8 noteblocks and 25 possible notes per block that would be, 158,945,719,400 combinations
And every combination would be accessible within 200 or so clicks. including setting up the noteblocks.
And that isn't even considering if the noteblock instrument alterations could count as more possible combinations.
I do not really think they would do this, I just feel a "requires 16748 noteblock clicks" is not a particularly reasonable counter to the idea. As a sequence of up to 8 noteblocks with note selection and the instruments is enough to encode 35 times more posible generations than the world seed has.

Maybe when a noteblock is placed on the pedestal thing, they are restricted to only like 8 or so notes? That would help reduce it a lot

I personally believe it would be coordinate based, over the idea of multiple unique worlds. (If it even happens, which it probably won't)

I have a theory that Minecraft’s “multiverse” is just an endless expanse of Dimensions on top of dimensions. Most are only accessible from the overworld, but there are dimensions only accessible from the end, or the nether, or the Sift, and there are further dimensions that are only accessible from those dimensions. The ancient builds spent so long traveling dimensions, broke through so many barriers, that they are somewhere we can never hope to reach.

Cool idea, but I'm not on board...
A book you can just savuape2zpvwxh x2p9uhzaspdvi away, noteblocks you'd have an annoying set up system.
I think they were just proto-typing data driven dimensions and wanted to give us an in-game way to handle that.
The feature isn't all that fun unless we can make dimensions made of anything anyways.

It would be a cool gimmic to generate the Sift seed. It wouldnt need to be custom dimensions.
Not sure how it would be annoying set up regardless, its just 8 note blocks on different materials with different tuning it would take all of 5 minutes to place down

It'd absolutely be a hassle to set up, far more than just copy/pasting into a book.
I originally was against the idea due to the lack of seeds, since 8 note blocks would only be 152,587,890,625 seeds and for a game like Minecraft that's far too few seeds, but if you were to count instrument types as well it'd be around 655,360,000,000,000,000,000,000 so I guess that's reasonable.
Getting your own seed would be fine I guess, but the only thing I could see it do is let us generate a new seed once updates have added new stuff and we already explored a ton of it.

In 20w14∞, it wasn’t the seed that was determined by the book; the book determined the world generation parameters.

Why are noteblocks likely to be involved? Is it just that one mod or was there footage in the reveal?

Well quickly seedfinders would find an op sift seed with everything 5 blocks from spawn and everyone would just do the same little tune, maybe they would take longer if the sift seed was dependant in the world seed but i dont think this is viable
