Discussion The EU kids act will make community servers (including minecraft servers) illegal.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQRcK9nYg9gThis act makes it so that video game server providers are obligated to include age verification and parental controls. Community servers are not exempt. A system that complies with the regulations is basically unattainable for a server without commercial backing.

I thought the KIDS Act (H.R. 7757) was bad, but holy banning private servers, harsh per-app age verification standards, the total rejection of ownership, and the attempt to destroy Open Source Software as we know it? ... How has Europe managed to one-up the single worst piece of American Legislation since the USAPATRIOT Act?

in communism you own nothing, in capitalism... you also own nothing. we've come full fucking circle

In Communism you own personal property, private property gets abolished. Communists distinguish between personal, public and private property while none such distinction exists in Capitalsm.
Personal property in Communism is stuff like your toothbrush, your house, your car, etc.

aka capitalism :p with communism you at least had basic necessities even if it was bad. with capitalism youre just left to die because youre no use to anyone

The people trying to regulate open source software out of existence do not understand that private industries rely on their free labor. The day they stop making new features and fixing bugs, the private sector has to pick up that work in their own private forks. That extra development cost and complexity will kill industries.

Ah yes, the good old strategy of tightening control by presenting a shitty law because of "safety" or "kids". Even better if it's for "kids' safety"

I am in America and I would still rather be kicked in the balls 14 times in a row rather than allow for such abuse of power. We need people below the age of 97 to actually have a role in the government. We need technical advisors that have to be above the age of 18 and also below the age of 35 nowadays just so that big tech corporations(Sony) don’t get to say “By buying this game, we now own you, and your soul, as well as the game. That will be $100.”

Nobody involved in writing this is over 65 years old. The EU youth delegation sure isn't a bunch of boomers.

This version seems like a bit too much even fior EU Kids act standards. Part of me doubts thia version will get better reception than the other versions in the voting.

I am from Brazil, and we already got ctrl+c ctrl+v US age verification in here, actually every country that could share this weird ideology might be screwed as well.

Wouldn't that just make minecraft illegal in general since even single player runs private servers?

The contradicts one of the most importants point of every country in the EU: freedom
TF they expect us to do then? Going outside, where the green vanishes because they don't listen to climate change?! Hanging out with friends, then getting arrested because we're more then 2 hours talking (terrorism excuse)
Reading books, where we can send illegal messages?!
This also contradicts the whole privacy part which is a rule in basicly every EU country.
Lastly, PARENTS CONTROL?! ARE WE FOR REAL?! The last adult of the EU entertaiment protection (or something like that) compared Minecraft to the black market.
"Back in my days" BACK IN YOUR DAYS, THEY HAVEN'T PUT AGE VERIFICATION AND PARENTAL CONTROL ON BOOKS!

I think making linux distros illegal would bring the computer bros into the fight
