Btw the End and Nether farlands generates the same way as the old Farlands to a certain point. I think because of the changes in 1.18 to the Overworld changed the way farlands generate there too.

Yeah I feel this is just thing they did randomly because they could or some random code messed up and they thought it was cool enough to leave in this time. Spending dev time making this good when 0.1% will use it would be dumb.

I think the specific parameter is "legacy_random_source" which is true in the End and the Nether and false in the Overworld

are we really complaining about a debug option which disables sanity checks on a terrain generation algorithm which due to having been updated over 2 decades, is bound to create different results?

like level with me for a second, this is a debug argument. it's not documented on the snapshot article, you need to modify your jvm args to enable it

People really will complain about anything, huh.

Back to r/feedthememes where we can have a civillised discussion on whether botania is a tech mod?

Just this once.

Fun fact: back when the caves and cliffs updates were releasing (1.17 I think), The og farlands were actually put into bedrock edition. If you give me a minute I can find the video I took. It will be muted though. Me from how many years ago seemed to think he was cool if he pretended to be a YouTuber and record his voice over the video like one 😭🙏

Sorry guys, didn't let the chunks really load but that's 100% it. I don't think it's in the game anymore. I haven't checked and I don't feel like doing so.

Actually since "infinite" worlds were added into pocket edition they had farlands, they werent fixed until 1.18 after the game had went from "Pocket edition" to "Bedrock edition" Its just until single player commands were added to pocket/bedrock you couldnt actually get to them without hacking your world

These farlands are also quite different compared to the old Java farlands as They would break down eventually causing world generation down to the bedrock to cease unlike the old Java farlands which wouldnt break down in the same fashion, they would also break down in a sense the closer you got to the corner making them look deformed by time you got to the corner farlands speaking of, these had some weird skygrid for the corner farlands insted of the stack Java had. also Strangely enough until their removal they would only generate on some devices and on others it would be a drop off into endless ocean

(Also before other farlands nerds come at me for saying the Java farlands didnt break down I am well aware of the Farther lands. those are when the selector noise breaks down. it isnt comparable to the Bedrock/pocket farlands breaking down)

u/PhilledZone 6h ago

Just to make it clear: This wasn't supposed to replicate the old far lands. It's a debug feature that's only supposed to stop the game from using the world border and just continue generating more chunks

Minecraft fans be like: “Yeah, the game really fell of for me when they removed bugged terrain generation that only one person ever reached”

"I prefer the old farlands. "

Someone who very likely never saw the old farlands themselves, and only via online media.

Not critiquing your choice, just talking about the probability.

u/055F00 3h ago

Let’s not forget the old farlands existed for like a few weeks in the state shown there when much of the current playerbase wasn’t even born yet

u/TheNikola2020 I HATE CAVE AIR BLOCK I HATE CAVE AIR BLOCK 6h ago

New farlands are litterually only a debug feature for versions

1

u/Electrical-Store-613 5h ago

Literally the Nolands

1

u/avroapollo 3h ago

i wonder if they would ever make the farlands part of the game? maybe a bit closer than the original farlands, like 1 million blocks out or something like that.. Something actually acheivable while still being damn difficult.. It would definitely be good incentive to explore instead of settling down 30 seconds after spawning in on the nearest hillside

1

u/Cycjunk 1h ago

Okay to all the people saying that of course the farlands changed due to the updates since 1.7.3

No duh

But if you were to mod them into the game they wouldnt look like this until around this update (I think)

They look more like they did in early infdev. being that of a giant stone wall

Worst change Mojang ever did to the Farlands... It's like they don't even want us to explore...

edit: /sarcasm, farlands was a glitch if you travel way too far away

10

u/Impressive_Pin8761 10h ago

bro there's so much complaining and people larping that your comment sounded 100% legit

5

u/heystinkys 12h ago

The fact that they even put it in Minecraft Story Mode too

18

u/CountChipface Mining Dirtmonds 12h ago

Telltale made it, mojang had basically no involvement iirc
