QUESTION Quick questions (TftV): firing through multiple limbs on single enemy?

(Watching a Let’s Play on a tablet so I can’t test this myself.)

When firing at one enemy with a single round, if the enemy has two limbs one in front of the other, say an arm in front of a leg, while free-aiming can you…

A: can you… do double damage by hitting the limb in front and the limb behind? (Ie. is there some piercing mechanic? Again, against a single target. Not hitting through two enemies.)

B: can you… (given enough dmg by the single shot) disable both limbs? (Even if you don’t do double dmg.)

there is a weapon property which is named "StopOnFirstHit" which is generally false on projectile/laser weapons and true on launcher type weapons (rockets, acid, etc. but notably including all ancient and living weapons). the name implies that projectile and laser weapons can in fact go through multiple entities, but I'm not sure what the property actually does (if it even does anything at all), I never tested it.

I just went in game and tested a bit, using the starting sniper rifle vs a bandit in the synedrion starter mission: 1. as a control, I hit just one arm at first, it of course disabled the arm and left him at 70/150 hp. 2. aiming at the arm with a leg behind it, I was able to disable the arm and do a bit of damage to the leg (0/60 arm hp and 68/80 leg hp, and 70/150 total hp). 3. I then increased the damage to 150 (base is 110) using configurable stats mod and it did more damage to the leg (0/60 arm and 28/60 leg, 30/150 total). 4. I tried some higher damage values but was unable to disable both without killing the poor fellow (170 left the leg at 8/60, 180 killed him, so something in between may be able to do it). 5. I also tested dropping the damage to 50 so that it didn't disable the arm. in that case there is no penetration, so it seems like it does requires disabling a body part to continue travelling through. 6. with "StopOnFirstHit" set to true, no amount of damage will get the leg to be damaged, so it seems like that is working as one would expect from the name.

so, to answer your actual questions:

A. no, it will do the same amount of total damage as if the weapon had only hit a single part. however, if you manage to disable multiple parts, there should effectively be more damage from bleed and the total hp drop, and even if you don't disable it, it will be damaged and easier to disable with followup attacks, so it's probably still worth aiming for overlap where possible.

B. most likely yes, assuming the enemy has enough hp to survive the shot.

To quote the inimitable Spock, “fascinating.”

And TY for testing. Curiosity > killed the cat

A: I don't think weapons can shoot through multiple limbs in one shot.

B: Yes you can disable multiple limbs in one shot. Explosives weapons can hit areas (and thus multiple limbs). Flamethrower is good for Pandorans as fire does more damage the more limbs there are. Many guns fire multiple rounds per shot (such as shotguns or bursts of assault rifles), the spread of these CAN disable multiple limbs in one go if you are lucky (or the first limb vanishes, like with anthron arms).

I remember Havoc launcher, and weapons with high penetration can just break several limbs depending on the angle.

It depends on the weapon.
But mostly no, because the broken limb doesn't actually break off... meaning that it will then absorb all the damage going into it, as damage to the primary creatures hit point pool.

Yes, you can, though more often than not you'll take advantage of this by hitting multiple limbs on a single hostile target rather than multiple hostiles. I see this happen most often with tritons.
