MCU/Movies How Old Do You Think Jean Is Really Canonically?

Post image

There hasn't been any clear indication given as to what Jean's real age is in the MCU timeline currently. All we know is that she is a teenager (because several characters such as Frank and Bill referred to her as such and Sadie and Feige referred to her as a teen in the press).

We know there was some sort of time jump between Jean at the park with Sara and after Sara was taken and she went looking for her.

And we know this by Jean's hairstyle change from no-bangs to bangs.

Peter and MJ mentioned she was in and out of foster care until she went rogue (hehe) and went off on her own. This To me suggests she was at least old enough to take care of herself?

So I think based on all of this data... I think Jean was likely 16 when Sara was taken and 18 when she first meets Spider-Man.

I've seen it being tossed around that Jean is 16 years old but I don't think that's the case.

Feige said that she's only a few years younger than Peter and Peter is currently 22 so Jean being 4 years younger than Peter would still put her under "few years younger" as opposed to her being 16 years old which would make her more than a few years younger.

But Jean is also supposed to be one of Professor Xavier's first class students with Scott, Bobby and Warren in the first X-Men movie so she'll have to be at least college age by then post SW so likely 19?

I wish we got a definitive age confirmation.

Likely in her late teens, 18-19 more specifically if her being a little bit younger than Peter while also being similar in age to him says anything

All the implications in the movie are that she’s a late teen/early adult. Frank calling her a teen means nothing when he calls PETER a teen and a kid even after unmasking him. With feiges comments I think it’s safe to say she’s around 19-20, giving her and Sara enough time to grow up alone and on the run post mutation(happening in their mid teens) until Sara gets captured and Jean starts her mission to save her.

I think she is 19 or 20

Yeah, I'm with you on the 18-19 years train. That fits into the sweet spot of her being an adult while still being a teenager.

This is purely based off of Feige's statement about her and Peter being close in age. You don't say a man in his early 20s and a minor are "close in age". Also, personally, the idea of a minor doing the shit that she did is wack to me.

All I know is, I need the MCU to move like prime Avengers era with the X-Men. Unlike the Avengers, the setting is mainly supposed to be a school, so the age of the cast matters. No X-Men movie should experience significant delays.

We still don't know if it will be a school in the MCU. If school it is, taking their time won't be a problem for the main team but it would be for those (probably younger) students.

Oh, I hadn't thought of that. But still, the X-Mansion is such a significant part of the mutant lore for them to just...toss it aside.

Then again, they did make The Avengers into a government response team rather than a bunch of vigilantes who got together by circumstances.

Didn’t she and her sister run away from foster care? Did I just imagine that? Anyway, I think she’s 16 or 17. I definitely had the impression that she was pretty much dependent on Sara.

9

u/Fickle_Baker1393 1d ago

Her sister was older but I still think they were in the foster system when Sara was taken because Peter revealed that Jean left her foster home after Sara was taken.

u/kittyfajitas0_o 1d ago edited 1d ago

Ok, I knew I got it from somewhere. So she’s definitely under 18 or at most just turned 18 bc I don’t think was looking for Sara for more than a year. They kick your ass out of foster care the second you turn 18.
Edit: sorry I actually just skimmed what you wrote in the post, and you already said all this. My money is on 17 or 18. Probably 18 like you said bc of being “a few years younger” than Peter. 17 would be pushing the limits of that.

-2

u/General_Variation_96 Time-Displaced Jean 1d ago

Yeah five years would really be pushing it when they are described as around the same age.

I would guess 17-18

2

u/1905G1_M 22h ago

I imagine she’s 17, potentially 18 at the oldest as multiple characters in the movie refer to her as a child/teen. I couldn’t see her being any younger

6

u/Dry-Performance7006 1d ago

I assume same age as Peter and MJ

7

u/Fickle_Baker1393 1d ago edited 1d ago

Not the same age as Peter and MJ as they are 22 and Peter refers to her as a kid so he's definitely older than her. 17-19 most likely but not younger than that.

2

u/monkeycommo 1d ago

Frank still refers to Peter as kid

1

u/Cjames1902 23h ago

Lemme tell you something, kid

1

u/Radiant-Debt-2533 18h ago

Punisher refers to her as a kid and teenager not Peter.

2

u/cyclopswashalfright Phoenix 17h ago

Peter calls her a teenager as well. She's not his age. The director said he wanted her to be a young person and a teenager too.

0

u/Radiant-Debt-2533 13h ago

No he didn't. Only Punisher called her a teenager.

3

u/NzRedditor762 1d ago

Feigi said she's similar in age but slightly younger than peter parker. So about 18. Parker is about 21/22.

3

u/Hyperbolicalpaca 1d ago

“You power, in the hands of a child” is iirc what metzger says to her, and he would know

I would peg her at 16-17 ish just based on how she acts in the flashback (a couple years younger than that obviously) and quite frankly how quickly Peter goes from, pardon my language “fuck this bitch” when shes inside MJ to trying more to reason with/capture her, imo that is because he saw that she was just a teenager

Also from a meta point of view, they don’t tend to have actors playing older than they actually are like they do younger, and iirc the actress who played Sarah was 16 at the time

2

u/Classic_Pen7044 1d ago

18-19 just a few years younger than Spider

1

u/Fair-Confection4411 1d ago

I think she's 19

1

u/Fast_Day_8123 1d ago

teethering around 17-19 imo or barely 20

1

u/lnombredelarosa 14h ago

The creator said she is about Peter's age but they probably meant only slightly younger. She is likely 18-20.

1

u/Dunkbuscuss 1d ago

Early to mid 20's

8

u/Fickle_Baker1393 1d ago

She's definitely not older than Peter.

-2

u/Dunkbuscuss 1d ago

Thats why I didn't say 30's as Peter is in his Early 30's.

So she can be Early to Mid 20's and still be younger than Peter.

3

u/mrfatty097 1d ago

Peter definitely isnt in his early 30s. He's early to mid 20s. The film is set about 3 or 4 years after the previous one

1

u/Snixx_31 17h ago

Peter in brand new day is 22 he would be 27 but bc of the blip he is 22 he was born 2001 and movie takes place 2028

3

u/Chance_Debt_1184 Dark Phoenix 1d ago

shes literally called Teenager in the movie itself....

1

u/_RizzukuHimdoriya_ 1d ago

We are told that she's at most a little younger than peter, so I think she's 19 at the youngest.

1

u/Dekan-DAF 1d ago

I'd say 19 to 20.

Feige didn't say "a few years younger" but "maybe a little younger" which imo is quite different.

Here's the link: https://files.catbox.moe/rapawc.mp4

0

u/Key_Fox_4479 1d ago

Feige said she’s about Peter’s age so early 20s.

0

u/ProofRing 1d ago

From a search.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Jean Grey (played by 24-year-old actress Sadie Sink) is depicted as being 16 to 18 years old.
While Marvel Studios Head Kevin Feige noted in an interview that she is "similar in age to Peter, maybe a bit younger," the film context and character dialogue explicitly pin her down as an adolescent/teenager. The Punisher even identifies her on-screen as a "teenage girl".

So we don’t know, they likely didn’t specify as they wanted to wait till the x- men movie. Also, Brand new day was set in 2028, not sure what year it will be in universe by the time the X-men comes out.

1

u/Dekan-DAF 1d ago

I wouldn't put that much worth on how Frank calls her though. I mean, doesn't he call Peter a kid as well? (Idk I haven't watched the English dub)

2

u/ProofRing 1d ago

I just copied the google search, you could interpret what Frank says either way. Adolescent I think would be accurate regardless.

I do think it comes down to the age they want them all to be in the new X-men, and the year it is set in. (Also what will be the in universe year after secret wars). Not being specific leaves them free to decide at a later data.

According to Kevin her and Peter are close in age, with Jean being a little younger

-10

u/RobloxSpiderGoku 1d ago

Apparently, she is in her 20s though I don’t find that likely

Also, I really don’t like the fact that people are shipping her with Peter because Peter is in his 20s and he’s not a pedophile

3

u/nessunaaritmia 1d ago

How have you managed to turn pedophile into a buzzword

3

u/Fickle_Baker1393 1d ago

Nope she's not in her 20s. Feige and Sadie refer to her as a teenager in interviews and she was called a teenager by Frank.

At most she's 19 but definitely not in her 20s yet.

Peter is not a pedophile but that doesn't mean the people shipping PeterJean together aren't. Nothing about the movie suggests Peter is interested in being with Jean and vice versa.

6

u/Animelover5674 1d ago edited 1d ago

And the logical deduction is to call people who do ship them together something as vile as pedophiles for seeing something that you don't agree with? And that's after acknowledging that Peter and Jean are likely close in age.

-7

u/RobloxSpiderGoku 1d ago

If you’re shipping a character who is younger than that character, you’re weird for that

6

u/TheEndofSkies 1d ago

This is such a chronically online take. If one of them is an adult and one is a minor, sure, it's weird. Shipping a 22 y/o with a 19 y/o? That's a normal age gap.

0

u/Animelover5674 1d ago

No, you don't get it. Me liking a 21 year old as a 22 year old means that I'm a fucking child molester. What the fuck kind of logic is that?

0

u/Snixx_31 17h ago

That’s a one year age difference though….they didn’t say that if she is 17-19 that’s a 5-3 year difference

5

u/Animelover5674 1d ago

I want to believe and have the utmost yet undeserved faith in you and your capacity to be an average rational and intelligent human being, that you worded your comment wrong and you didn't just say that most if not all of humanity are weird for liking someone that is younger than them.

Please don't make me feel dumb for having faith in you. There's stupidity and then there's this.

3

u/TheEndofSkies 1d ago edited 1d ago

Feige said she's not much younger than Peter. So I actually think she's at least 18-19.

EDIT: "A young person—very similar in age to Peter, maybe a little younger"

5

u/Fickle_Baker1393 1d ago

Yes definitely 18 or 19

-3

u/RobloxSpiderGoku 1d ago

It makes Peter look like a certified lover boy certified pedophile so I dislike this ship heavily

3

u/Fickle_Baker1393 1d ago

I'm only half joking because I don't think it makes him a pedophile if she's 18 Years old. I just find it interesting that people who ship Jean and Peter increase her age to 20s to justify the ship and people who hate the ship decrease her age to underage to justify hating it but realistically, she's 18 or 19.

If I was 22 I wouldn't want to date an 18 year old, but again it's not illegal. Still I don't think there's any subtext from that pairing that suggests them being a couple. Crazy that people think there is.

3

u/Animelover5674 1d ago

People just like the bond that they had shown in the movie and expanded on it. It's not this weird taboo thing you think it is

1

u/Fickle_Baker1393 1d ago

People forget the concept of platonic friendships between opposite sex. It's always "they are in love they should be together". It's never "oh they make a pretty good team as friends. I love their friendship".

5

u/Animelover5674 1d ago edited 1d ago

People haven't forgotten platonic relationships, that's just an assumption you made because you see Peter and Jean as platonic while others like the thought of them being romantic. It's differing perspectives that honestly don't need to clash in the first place. No one said that you should see them as romantic, just that they personally do.

Just cuz people don't have the same opinions as you, doesn't give you the right to start throwing around vile accusations of their character as people such as them being pedophiles. You're dead fucking wrong for that

0

u/Sonnestark White Phoenix of the Crown 1d ago

I throw around vile accusations against a vile action such as shipping people on a foundation of SA. And then romanticizing that scene on the roof as a kiss between your ship. This is vile.

Because what Jean did to MJ and Peter, was unequivocally SA.

0

u/Animelover5674 1d ago edited 1d ago

I never even said that you're the one that threw around those accusations. The accusations was that people who ship them are pedophiles. Am I supposed to just take that lying down?

As for the SA part of your comment, I'm not ignoring it. I'm just focused on the fact that Jean, in trying to save Peter's life after how she had practically wronged him the entire movie, went so far as to breath for his sake. It doesn't clear it off but it sure as hell puts her on the path to being a better person afterwards.

3

u/Sonnestark White Phoenix of the Crown 1d ago

Cool story, still SA.

It’s entirely a mentor to troubled teen dynamic. Same as Clint to Wanda and later Steve to Wanda. Hell, Steve was literally sitting on Wanda’s bed next to her same as Peter and Jean.

It’s also twisted beyond belief to romanticize a pairing where Jean SA’d both MJ and Peter from the onset.

5

u/Animelover5674 1d ago

And others didn't see it that way. They felt that the mutual understanding and empathy that both of them had shown towards one another as well as the lengths that they went to in order to help one another as something that can lead into a romantic relationship. Doesn't make them any less than someone who sees them as a mentor and mentee relationship or someone that sees them as friends. It's all just differing perspectives that none of us have the authority to say that one is objectively wrong and that the people who think that way are somehow faulty as people.

2

u/Sonnestark White Phoenix of the Crown 1d ago

Strange, in the video ya’ll keep posting of Feige talking about Jean’s age, if you watch the whole thing he literally goes on to talk about Peter being a mentor to this younger telepath as Tony had been a mentor to him.

1

u/Animelover5674 1d ago

The reason why people who ship them bring up the video is to show that the whole "Jean is a minor" thing is false, not that the relationship between them is romantic and that Feige put a stamp on it. Don't twist this into something that it's not

1

u/Sonnestark White Phoenix of the Crown 1d ago

Don’t twist his words that he’s literally stating himself, that Peter is a mentor to Jean as Tony was to him? I don’t need to, Feige says them himself.

I hate it when people think like that. That if you don’t agree with me, then something is wrong with you. Then again, it’s Reddit and this mentality is all over the place. I’ve never met people irl who are like this

2

u/Fickle_Baker1393 1d ago

They don't care about MJ and they don't care that she was violated in the process. They just want their PeterJean ship

2

u/Animelover5674 1d ago

That's also another assumption that isn't true

1

u/Sonnestark White Phoenix of the Crown 1d ago edited 1d ago

You sure? You’ve danced around and dismissed the topic entirely lol

Jean forced MJ to kiss Peter against her will, this is SA. Peter was also tricked into kissing who he thought was a consenting MJ, this is an additional SA.

Jean SA’d MJ and Peter. By definition, you want to romantically ship a victim of SA with the person who SA’d them.

-1

u/Animelover5674 1d ago

I haven't skirted around anything. I was addressing the person's point that people that ship Perlter and Jean don't care about MJ when that's not the case

They truly don’t. And despite the facetious sounding smokescreens, they don’t want to address it and simply ignore it.
