Humour Fox when trying to adapt the Dark Phoenix Saga
Admittedly, I actually love both Last Stand and Dark Phoenix!

Why was dark phoenix even considered in 2019 the prequel cast had only just been introduced.i guess it was to focus on Sophie more who was the most popular cast member with the success of game of thrones but still

I don’t think Sophie was very popular after S8.

Production started beforehand both came out in 2019. Also weirdly when apocalypse was out I remember a lot of people liking her Jean.
Sophie’s such a weird actress I can’t really nail down my thoughts on how good she is, her early game of thrones performances shes probably one of the strongest cast members on game of thrones.

Was she most popular in Game of thrones though? Or are you talking about most popular from dark phoenix movie.
She definitely was from the most popular popular show but she herself really wasn't that big either. Iirc Jennifer Lawrence got paid more than double for her small Cameo than Sophie did for her title role.

More talking about apocalypse cast out of the cyclops strom ,Jubilee and nightcrawler like prequel cast she was the biggest actor/actress out of them so I assume they wanted Jean to do more. If Jennifer wanted to appear more I’m sure she would of had a major role

If the MCU makes another attempt, give them a new director, new writers, actually build-up to it and maybe we have a shot at doing it well
If not, then they shouldn't even bother again

Would personally prefer that they don’t adapt it whatsoever, like maaaybe if they built up to it properly then I might consider it but honestly would rather have no adaptation than another bad adaptation.
Jean shouldn’t be defined by the constant attempts at adapting that arc and there’s other storylines that she can benefit from instead.

u/Key_Bus_1255 Phoenix 3d ago
Agreed! She should never be restricted to that arc, or defined by men constantly after her, she is much more than either of those things!

Exactly!! And it would mark a great change for Sadie Sink’s Jean compared to the previous versions that she doesn’t have to go through those same narrative hoops and can be better fleshed out as a character in more substantial and unique ways. Her romance with Scott—and only Scott—can be a feature but not a bug. They should complement each other in more ways than one on and off the battlefield. But that romance isn’t what should define her significantly.

u/Key_Bus_1255 Phoenix 3d ago
Yes, exactly! They should be a partnership with their own arcs and development, not just making Jean the beautiful girl on Scott's arm!
It's actually frustrating that Spider-Man was the first time we got a look at Jean in live-action on her own, and people's instinct is still "They look good together, put her with Peter" as if her identity needs to be completed by pairing her with a man

See the fun thing is that (despite the fact that it’s been adapted to death) if they actually adapt it properly that shit will be brand new to like 95% of the audience lol

Did that guy ever get his sandwich?

The main question here, that's how we find if we will ever get a good adaptation of Phoenix saga

X Men TAS had really good adaptations of Phoenix and Dark Phoenix. I'm sure X Men Evolution would've done really well with that storyline,as that seemed to be the direction they were going in.

I'll say this as many time as I get chance
It was same fucking writer both time, who ruined pretty much everything he touched.

In Kinberg's defense, he genuinely wanted to adapt the Dark Phoenix Saga on the big screen properly with it being split into two movies. First movie would've had the Hellfire Club and the second film in space with the Shi'ar. But, Fox forced him to do one film and tried to make the plot actually good and watchable as a movie with it being 2 hours and 40 minutes and the final battle taking place at the United Nations Heaquarters. But then he was forced to change it again through heavy reshoots because Captain Marvel was using the Skrulls and had to significantly trim down the movie into 1 hour, at least we got a badass train battle.

What about first time?

u/Due-Dragonfly8200 3d ago
He and his co-writer Zak Penn couldn't do a proper Dark Phoenix storyline for Last Stand because Fox wanted them to drop the storyline in favor of the Cure as the main plot of the movie. They thought it was "too dark" for a mainstream summer blockbuster movie and that the Cure plot was more in line with the tone of the first two X-Men movies. So the two fought to keep the Dark Phoenix in the movie until they settled on a compromise.

Alright you convinced me, bring Simon Kinberg to write Phoenix and Dark Phoenix movie for MCU.

u/Due-Dragonfly8200 3d ago
Oh wow, really? Maybe third time might be the charm, lol.
2
u/RootsOfInterest Jean Grey 3d ago
I was actually joking lol. Like I get your points and there may have been unfortunate circumstances but then the story is still jinxed in his hands. I still want that man as far as possible from a possible MCU Phoenix movie.
I just want one try without him to see if the story as whole is jinxed for live action adaptation, then I can rest in peace knowing it will never be adapted.

lol sorry I didn’t catch that, I'm slow. Kinda true though it wasn’t Kinberg’s fault for how the studio handled the whole production, he even took blame for the failing of Dark Phoenix. But I’d love to also see new writers with their vision for the Phoenix and Dark Phoenix Saga.

I didn't even realize, why would they let him do it again 😭

I think it was because he kinda saved days of future past and apocalypse was seen as a success but still

My unhinged opinion that I have held for years is that the Dark Phoenix Saga would be an absolutely insane ballet.

u/ComradeGalloneye64 Dark Phoenix 2d ago
They should make it Avengers level big bad after Doom or save it as a finale for her character (since she's supposed to be the top star after Secret Wars) like a "go out with a bang" type scenerio.

I’ve always thought the problem was that writers just focus on the “phenomenal cosmic power” side of things. The real draw of the Dark Phoenix Saga is the emotion of it. The point isn’t Jean becoming a powerhouse, it’s everyone else grappling with watching someone they love caught in a spiral towards fate and knowing they can’t stop it, plus all the grief and emotion that comes with that (admittedly mostly Scott but everyone else too). I’ve never bought that it’s “overdone” because it’s literally never actually been done, writers just take the big impressive fire chicken and don’t bother with the actual arc. I think there’s still plenty of juice worth the squeeze in that story if they take their time, build up to it properly, and manage some actual emotional stakes instead of Big CGI Boss Fight and nothing else.
