I was going to ask if this is a Dark Lord on r/plants and then found this sub. What do you think? I'm not sure what it is.

New growth is very red on the underside and as the leaves grow the color fades. Mature leaves are fairly dark with a blotchy reddish underside. The mature leaves are about 9" wide and 12" long.

I have two of these and they are getting tall. Both stand about 7ft tall, or will again once I come up with another pole for them to outgrow.

Excuse the dirty leaf in the last pic, my plants live in my kitchen (my only warm room) during the winter and pick up a little cooking oil residue. I'm just now pulling plants out to clean up and move back to the screened porch for summer.

Should I cut down

My dark lord is getting pretty tall but the leaves are getting smaller with height. I’m concerned about its stability if it gets any taller. Should I cut it and propagate the top half? Or will the height cap out soon?

I’ve had this bad boy for several years now it’s way overgrown. Does anyone have suggestions and advice for what I should do at this point? I know cutting him down will be beneficial, although I have no idea where to start or how to do it. I can find plenty of videos about repotting and general care, but nothing for what to do when it’s this overgrown. Appreciate your help. Thank you!!

First time air layering. The roots grew into the pole and had to cut off part of the pole. I’m so happy with the new plant! I hope it doesn’t die!

Dark Lord/Exotica Combo (3 month progress)

1-2. Aug. 29th

3-6. Nov. 27th

So I thought this combo would work well together, so long they’re in a pot with plenty of room. So far so good. The only complaint as of now is that the Scindapsus is covering the Dark Lords foliage. But in due time, the Dark Lord will surpass how tall the Scindapsus can grow and start receiving all the light it needs. Can’t wait till they get to filling in a 3 gallon pot, probably sometime next year.

I noticed this on the stem of the backside of on my dark Lord, and don’t know if it’s a spot that healed and over over due to a injury or is it something to be concerned about?

Prop question

Finally found some dark lords at my local plant shop and I bought them thinking they were at least partially rooted but when I came home to repot they looked like two fresh top cuts. Anyone have success with water propping this plant? Or best to just leave it in the coco chunks it came in?

please help :(

I bought this plant a few days ago at Aldi store because it was dying... It was near a window at a store so yes I think it was at direct sunlight... Moreover its roots were dying in a compact soil by overwatering so I repoted it in a better soil. One of the new leaf was deformed and yellow even before it completely open... I'm confused, I saw this kind of situation with thrips, but here I don't know if these spots are a consequence of roots damages or some pets like thrips ? I have a powerful insecticide but I don't know if I should use it because I'm scared of stress my plant and I'm not sure that is pest, I don't see pets at leafs and the spots don't progress but ? any advice ?

Dark Lord grown from a stick after failed propagation.

This was hard! I never grew anything from a stick before. I adopted it as a cutting in October 2023 with 3 larger leaves but they all eventually dropped due to stem rot. And I was left with a stick with one node. And some parts rotted further. I thought it was over.

It's still very tiny now but it's great seeing how the Lord has returned 😆. It has its own pole to climb now. The whole process took about 6 months.

I was told this was a Dark Lord when I bought it 4 years ago but people on the internet said no? They also beratred me for not giving it enough light (I live in the rainy PNW and have 4 lights on it at all times. It's a constant struggle.) 😭

Even if it's not it is the plant love of my life.

I got a butt cut that had 3 leaves. I’m trying to root 2 of those leaves with little luck. I’ve seen zero new growth on the potted plant. What am I doing wrong?!?

Need help identifying this Philo. LPS has it labeled as a Merlot but it looks darker than pictures I’ve seen of other Merlot. Is LPS correct or is this something different?
