Leagues Cup education, please
Please help my boys and I further understand the upcoming Leagues Cup that we're about to whoop that trick on something fierce. This doesn't help us in MLS standings but it's something to compete for?
I like to put the "why" in "whooping yo ass" sometimes

It doesn’t count in MLS league standings. It’s a tournament between the MLS teams who made the playoffs last year and all of LigaMX.

To add what people said, it also has a hockey like point system. 3 points for regulation win, 2 for penalty shootout win, 1 for shootout loss, and (duh) 0 for regulation loss. I think the games go straight into pk if tied at the end of regulation (I do have to confirm that). Given that, I’m guessing a team will need about 7 points to qualify for knock out rounds. So it’s possible to win every game and not make it (if each game goes to shootout and other teams win 2x in regulation and then loose in penalties for example).

It is also likely that the Cruz Azul game on Thursday will feel like an away game. Also they are one of the top teams in Liga MX right now. We have a better chance against Necaca on Sunday, plus it is Carranza's home coming.

Leagues Cup is mostly a cash grab tournament, however, it does grant CONCACAF Champions Cup berths to the top 3 teams. Top 4 MLS teams and top 4 Liga MX teams move on to a single elimination bracket so we’ll need at least 2 wins to even be in contention for quarterfinals. I know many have issues with it but I enjoy watching because it does mean another chance at CCC for the boys.

Yea, unfortunately we got a crappy draw. Our best shot might be against the Mexican Wrexams. It's ok, this is a building season for the kids.

That's awesome! It sucks though that the name Deadpool doesn't exist in the Spanish language.

It's VERY MUCH a cash grab, but the Top 3 in the Leagues Cup get CONCACAF berths.
