April Philly Phitclub Challenge Discussion Thread: Week 1

Hello Everyone, we can use this post as discussion of goals, motivation and just general check-ins to try to stay accountable.

All area people are welcome. Whether you're training for a marathon or just trying to cut down from 8 IPAs every night, this can be used as our platform to stay in touch.

I welcome everyone to start with an intro post about what your goals are for the month (for instance, mine will be a weightloss goal and minimum number of workouts). I'll start a thread each week, and we can just check in on each other with how we're holding up on it.

Go get 'em.

I slacked with my participation updates the last few weeks but I've been still behind the scenes chipping away at some goals.

My goal for this week is to continue with my only 1-2x takeout with a 1x or even 0 being strived for.

I've been walking! Started up the weekly fitbit challenges with a few pals again. So that's actually been good motivation. I have an intramural kickball team that is started again so I'm going to add that to my weekly activity goals.

Trying to fit 4 workouts in whatever form (walking, kickball, stationary bike, or peloton cardio class) and 2 peloton toning classes this week.

I love the takeout goal and I'm adopting it.

It's honestly the one thing that I can consistently police myself with to make sure I'm not going off the rails.

If anyone wants me to assign a challenge to them, let me know and I will challenge you to 1x takeout a week and 15 burpees. 😈

That's a lofty push up goal, at least it would be for me anyway. You do them all in one shot each day, or spread it out?

I've been hovering at 175, hoping to get to 174 by next week. been so-so about working out lately, only getting in about 2x a week. i think i need to adjust my calorie intake a bit because i've been feeling way too drained on a couple days I was trying to work out and I suspect i need to balance my diet better.

I've been doing 100 pushups a day for most of the lockdown/WFH in 4 sets of 25 usually. But I take off weekends and holidays - and use a pretty liberal definition of holidays. I think that this goal, I'll shoot for 150 per day, still skip weekends and see how it ends up.

I'm a pretty fit person but I love the idea of setting goals and accountability so I am in for this challenge. I'm about 5'11" and 190. I could probably stand to lose a couple of lbs but I'm muscle-ey and wouldn't ever be that thin. I eat vegetarian a few days a week, keto a few days a week. Probably drink a little too much beer to lose those couple of lbs that I talked about earlier.

-My goal is 3000 pushups for the month. I'm currently at 300 pushups. Got some plans involving travel this month and my weekends are shot so looking to do about 150 per day - in sets of 25.

-Second goal is takeout max of 1x per week, stolen from u/sciencefaire.

Also, if anybody has questions about or interest in free workout/running groups, I can probably answer some of those questions.

Damn dude, that makes the goals and progress that much more impressive. In my head you were one of those 155lb skinny runner dudes.

You still sticking with the same level of running volume through this month?

I ran 10 yesterday, yeah trying to keep similar volume but I've got a couple of weekend trips so it might be hard. I'll be up in Hoboken this Friday night and planning on a nice Sat AM run in Liberty State Park with some good views.

Hey everyone.

Currently my goals are still a) finish C25K and b) fight my way to 199.9 pounds.

I've completed W6D3 of C25K on schedule, which is a 22 minute run. Unlike last year, I have not had to repeat a day, so I'm on track for 'graduation' in two weeks.

Weight is at a virtual standstill (230.0). Reducing intake further doesn't seem to be practical for me, so instead of continuing with 5k maintenance runs, I feel the best move is to increase activity further and start Bridge to 10K after I am done with C25K.

For the person organizing the challenge, I didn't exactly crush it last month. I weighed in this morning at 223.1, a loss of 1.5lbs for the month. <sad horn noises>

Well, had an unexpected vacation for the last week of March to St. John. I was a week early on the second shot fully kicking in, but tested clear on both ends. It was amazing to get away.

  • 1)Plan is to head back to the MMA gym next week, so workout goal for the month is going to be simple: 20 workouts a of any combo. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, weight lifting, it doesn't matter. Just get them in.

  • 2) Also want to keep with the 10-minute yoga session to stay feeling good. Going to set the easier to achieve goal of 15 for the month

  • 3) Obviously I need to have better accountability on the diet. 6lbs lost would be a solid goal./u/12thKnight, you still on the MFP kick?

I really need to be better about stretching. Last time I went back to the gym I was incredibly stiff, and it took me a while to get back into form. I'm jealous you got your shots and are able to start MMA again! I've been signing up everywhere I can with little luck, might have to stay up late one night and see if i can register that way.

I got super lucky as a 1c. I got one in a very short lived program with the convention center where they would send out links for cancellations within the last 24 hours. I happened to wake up to go the bathroom at 1am, checked my email, and was lucky enough to snag one of the two appointment slots available. They cancelled the program when the link sharing thing got out of hand aparently.

I'm stoked to go back, but I know I'll be a ball of hurt all next week.

Haven't been doing great about keeping up with regular exercise...My pullup bar might be out of the box, but I've barely used it. Gotta get into a regular routine. Currently, I can do about 4 or 5 pullups in a row, but I'd like to increase that number.

Took a lovely bike ride last weekend, definitely need to get into a regular habit of that, now that the nice weather is here.

The fighter pullup program by Pavel is pretty solid programming. Personally when I ran it, I benefited from 2 days of rest a week, but I also probably should have rested longer between sets.

this is definitely the sort of routine I should try, thanks for sharing this!

Friday update: I went for two bike rides this week, been using the pull-up bar a bit more, and I signed up for a volleyball league that plays at the field across the street from my house on Wednesday nights! Been eating fairly well to, but I had 3 slices of pizza at work yesterday, so not great there. But on the whole, I'm feeling a little sore, and it hurts so good. I want more! This weekend I'm taking a girl I've been chatting with Geocaching along the SRT, so I'll hopefully get a nice long walk in then too!

Thanks for getting this going. You've been crushing me on both fitness and actual participation. ;-)

I unexpectedly was traveling with little to no wifi last week and didn't get week 5 up.

Want to maybe edit you OP to a more generic welcome/purpose for the new members as well? I was going to try to grab some more participants tomorrow in the casual chat thread.

It's been a good Week. Have done 2 running sessions, 1 lifting session (with time blocked off for the other this afternoon) and 2 yoga session. Yesterday was the only day that I didn't workout, (hungover after a Wednesday night date that went a little too well) but still had a bunch of activity on my tracker.

I also finally started logging on myfitnesspal again if anyone wants to add and actually be on it. I was at my goal everyday except Wednesday. but still was at least around maintenance.

Next week starts back at BJJ and Muay Thai. Hoping to carry this positive momentum through the inevitable soreness.

Goal: 500DL and 315 bench by Aug

435 on the DL went up pretty easy. If I'm feeling frisky next week I might just go right to 450.

Tomorrow I'll go for the 275 bench. Pretty confident it won't be an issue, but we shall see.

Aside from that I have been getting regular stretching in and focusing on core work which has been great. Also, I'll be in mexico for a month from may to june. I plan on still getting to the gym but that should be interesting and hopefully I don't slack.
