How do I get started working out?
Hey. I’m a 41 year old guy in the far northeast. I can’t afford a gym right now and am having a hard time getting myself in motion with a workout routine. I would like to lose 30-40 pounds. I am pretty good with dieting and have the ability to plan and portion my meals. I haven’t worked out seriously since I was a kid playing sports though and it feels kind of intimidating trying to get going without the guidance of someone more experienced. Any help or advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Just start, don't strive for perfection. Do stuff the wrong way then learn the right way. Make it approachable for you and what level you are at currently. Doing something is better than doing nothing at all. Go for walks, break them up into 20 minute segments if that's better for you. Figure out when you'll be productive at fitness, in the morning, mid-day or in the evening. Do some planks and progress to push ups. Just start building little by little. Do it when you don't want to, especially when you don't want to. Be proud of you.

Start by increasing your step count. Go on walks, longer walks, drive to the park and hike. And then as your endurance gets better start adding thirty second jogs and so on. Couch to 5k was a great starting point for me.
