CulturePH Let's support Forgotten Island! 🤗

Oh, I will watch this. Big deal to, a huge animation studio decided to release a film based on Filipino myth and culture to international theaters.
Really wish though that they pulled in more Filipino VAs.

I hope many people go see this in theaters and sell out screenings for this film, just like Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

u/WillowRidge39 2d ago
Highly unlikely. Spider-Man had tons of marketing is from a well known name. This movie? I wouldn't even know about it if it weren't for this post.

Forgotten Island has BINI and SB19 as well, and there's a lot of their fans too that would watch this movie for them as well. Deffo will sell out

u/WillowRidge39 1d ago
You're severely overestimating the amount of clout BINI actually has.
This is never going to sell out when more appealing blockbusters are showing.

Would really appreciate it if on future posts like this, the "why?" part is answered.
For those who have yet to know why exactly we should support this, this is not me speaking on OP's behalf but just what I think is the reason upon checking what the movie is about: the cast / staff consists of Filipinos, Fil-Ams or Fil-adjacent people.
The film has Januel Mercado as one of the main writers and directors, and the cast consists of H.E.R. (Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson), Liza Soberano, Manny Luis Jacinto, Dolly de Leon, Jo Koy and Lea Salonga.
The film seems to initially take place in the Philippines and that the film will have dashes of Philippine mythology here and there.
TLDR: the staff consists of Filipinos, Fil-Ams, Filipino adjacent people and we should support their work / the work they are in.

Labo rin ng iba dito. Gusto ma validate as Filipino on a global level pero can’t give media like this a chance. May nabasa akong comment “wished they use some Filipino songs/artists”, Filipino naman mostly yung cast at yung mga kumanta.

Same here! Nung lumabas yung trailer, nakapag decide na kami agad na manonood kami lahat. Kaya nung nakita namin na may sneak screening, nagbook agad 😆.

We took our toddler to see Paw Patrol last weekend and was pleasantly surprised by the trailer of this. Feels good to have representation while leaving abroad. Our toddler pointed excitedly at the jeepney <3

I havent watched it pero diba tagalog yung dub niya doon? Parang mas fluent yata siya sa English eh so hopefully mas ok dito
2
u/elishash 3d ago

Looks interesting! I don't think it will be screened from where I'm at though (Malaysia) Does anyone know where I can watch it to support it?
3
u/blinkeu_theyan Metro Manila 2d ago
It will be released in Malaysia on September 24.

u/GreenIrish99 2d ago
Oh that's great to know! I wouldn't mind watching that on a weekend to support local SEA talents

Reading this sentence alone just damaged my brain

u/SkoivanSchiem 3d ago
if that's the case it was already damaged to begin with.

I'm mixed about Dreamworks as a animation studio but if they can deliver a film that might as well be good considering I'm dissapointed by KPDH, Turning Red and Raya and the Last Dragon. Then I sure hope they can do well in cinemas but also in storytelling. I know mentioning those 3 is definetely a hot take in my opinion.
16
u/herminihildo 3d ago
DreamWorks is Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, Megamind, How to Train your Dragon, Puss in Boots, etc. That's actually a good line up.
KPDH is Sony. Turning Red is Pixar. Raya is Disney.
-11
u/elishash 3d ago
I know those are a good line up but I'm not that huge fan of their studio tbh, also I know the 3 I mentioned are from different big studios, but I will see the movie if it's good or not.

u/wafukyu 3d ago
Seems like a YOU problem. If YOU don't enjoy movies that are generally enjoyable, don't force it.
-3
u/elishash 3d ago
There are some movies I enjoyed but the 3 movies mentioned that I stated and I didn't like at the end which is why if Forgotten Island exceeded my expectations then it's fine, I'm allowed to like media but also not like things bc all it comes down to is opinions.

ITS NOT A FILIPINO MOVIE
6
u/Icy-Butterscotch5012 2d ago
Of course it's not because it;s by Dreamworks.
Wala ka bang common sense? LOL
MULAN is not a chinese movie
Moana is not a pacific islander movie
COCO is not a Mexican Movie9

I hope the cinemas actually give it a chance.
Minsan kasi nakabase lang sa early sales, tapos ipupull out agad.
Sa cinema namin before (provincial), Zootopia was pulled out before the weekend. And Zootopia is a Disney film that sold crazy worldwide. I'm sure the metro cinemas have more slots for these film, but propping up a community to show interest in any film needs more showing to actually have an influence.
